ACL Friday: the quick and dirty version

Sep 23, 2005 23:57

Lessons learned: Bring a book for the good spot stakeouts. Don't wear jeans tomorrow. Umbrellas are useful for blocking sun as well as rain.

The bands: Mates of State were totally awesome; energetic and fun and definitely made me want to run out and buy their album. Sound Team was great; Spoon not so much.

I had a break in between bands, so I staked out a spot close to the stage for Keane.

KEANE! Keane was amazing. I was seriously blown away by their performance, their interaction with the crowd, their stage presence. It was unbelievable. Tom Chaplin is adorable and he has such an impressive voice. They did a couple of songs from their next album, and they were both beautiful and intense.

Did I hear someone say they want to see pictures? PICTURES!

ETA 1.24am: I almost forgot to mention how they complained about the weather! Here we are, all thankful that the festival isn't going to be rained out, but the Brits are whinging about the heat, even though it was evening and much cooler by that time. "Sunset in Texas! It's fucking hot, though. They don't make weather like this in England," said Tom Chaplin, guzzling his bottle of Dasani. "The English... we're not built for this kind of heat." And Austin laughed. Silly Englishman. And then we cheered because yay music.

pictures, squee!, music
