Star Wars!

So, I finally watched The Force Awakens today. I didn't want to before, I didn't want a sequel (Return of the Jedi is a beautiful, beautiful ending, okay? I like the glowing happy party, I didn't actually want to watch them all be no longer glowing and happy.) But finally, I was all "... yeah, you know, I am in the right mindspace to see this." So I did.

And it was fun. :) And it's so useful to suddenly understand all the bits and pieces that one has picked up by osmosis. Like, five minutes in "Oh, that's why everybody likes Poe Dameron so much!" and then about ten minutes in "Oh, that's why people are shipping Poe Dameron/Finn!" and then about twenty minutes in "So, Finn and Rey can get married too, I'm sure they can live in a happy threesome!"

(also, somewhere in there was "Poe might be dead? That is sad!"
Sister: Of course he's not dead, how could someone dead this early on have such a big fan following?!
Me: You were not in the Death Note fandom, please allow me to explain the character of Matt's four panels before his death to epic epic amounts of fic ...
Sister: ... oh.)

All the main characters were really good though - Rey and Finn are both great, I like the different things they bring to the mix and will be interested so see where they go with that. And hee, Poe was hilarious, I approved so much.

Kylo Ren is kind of fascinating. I love how ... pathetic he is. Like, he's super-dangerous and horrifying but he the two wild temper tantrums and the obvious implication that he does this all the time - and then how utterly unthreatening he is when he takes the mask off ... it's interesting, I'm not quite sure where they're going with him but he is different. I like to picture the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker wandering wearily behind Kylo Ren going "No. No, kid, no ... no, look, why don't you try cake? Cake is a very good, very calming. Kid? Kid? You're talking to my dead head, oh for the love of the Force ..."

There are ... occasional questions to be asked about the plot. Luke, why did you make a map to where you were hiding? Why? Is this a Jedi thing? But really, I enjoyed it ever such a lot and am happy. Although still in a certain level of denial though. Very nice story, yes but REALLY LUKE, LEIA AND HAN LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER SO THERE (also, I want to know what happened to Lando, who also lived happily ever after. Although I guess if he doesn't appear, he's really living happily ever after ...)
