So, yesterday I watched The Original Star Wars Trilogy. This is all calapine's fault because she was talking about them. Also, on Friday I bought a T-Shirt saying "Yoda Says Relax!" so obviously, the stars were aligning or something. I haven't watched them for at least a couple of years so it was quite nice to see them again really. Well, mostly.

First general conclusion, A New Hope is ... kind of boring. I never used to find it boring (although it was always my least favourite) but now? I just spent most of it rather wanting it to be over and going "IT'S NOT OVER, WHHHHHHY?!" I'm just not that into space battles and A New Hope just felt too much like space battles. And set up. And I just didn't care. Sorry A New Hope but ... yeah. Go away and shoot first somewhere else. (also, I don't care about Han in ANH and he keeps being on the screen. In Empire and Jedi, I care and thus do not mind his frequent appearances.)

Second general conclusion, Empire Strikes Back is a much better film but the time line still really, really annoys me. How long is Luke on Dagobah? How long are Han and Leia IN that cave-that-isn't? Is this all happening in the space of a few hours? Because it feels like that and that just doesn't work. The film is good enough so I can ignore it but it niggles at me from time to time and is a bit of a distraction. But it does contain Lando, who is AWESOME and Luke gets to angst and apparently, primarily this is what I want from Star Wars, it seems.

Third general conclusion, I still like Return of the Jedi best. I am willing to admit a certain level of bias but um, not much. Because Vader and Luke have conversations that are very made of win and the Emperor is in it and Lando gets to be awesome and I find traditional shoot-em-ups boring so watching the Ewoks taking out the Stromtroopers is great for me because they have to invent really cool death traps. Also, I maintain that the Ewoks represent the Star Wars Universe as a whole (the small rising against the strong to improve the world) and this gives me a sensation of actual hope and it has a beautiful fluffy ending where everything is happy and thus um, Jedi is clearly awesome. Also, Luke is pretty in it. Shush.

After this, I was all "I wanna read Truce at Bakura now." which was followed by "... did we get rid of Truce at Bakura?" I remembered my sister and I getting rid of a collection of Star Wars books when we were trying to weed the bookcases out. Trude certainly wasn't anywhere obvious (unlike some of the others) A quick investigate later revealed that we actually kept LOADS that I'd forgotten and put them in the loft. HURRAH, CUNNING PLAN! I did think we'd been a LITTLE enthusiastic with weeding out QUITE so much of our collection ... So, obviously, now I will have to re-read a whole load of EU. Hurrah?
