(no subject)
I went to Oregon. And then I came back.
I was interested in a mobile home but by the time I dithered around I found it had been sold. I decided to go up there anyway because I haven’t been anywhere for years.
There are actual mountains between CA and Oregon, so it can be a wearying 5/6 hour trip with going up and down roller coaster type roads, always with a line of big rigs beside you. You careen down sharp curves with the Highway Dept. blinking messages, for the love of god, slow down!!! (in so many words) .
I was going to stay two nights but left after one. There’s not much you need to see in Springfield if you don’t already have an object in mind. It seems I pack my insomnia with me now. I didn’t sleep much, and even though I wasn’t thrilled with the hotel’s tv selection, I did watch some of the original Harry Potter movie and learned I’d be saying Voldemort’s name wrong in my head.
I had dinner at IHOP! Not pancakes. In the morning in the hotel I made myself a waffle! I’ve had better coffee. Although I once again was befuddled by hotel doors. I don’t travel often enough to keep up with the tech. Last time I didn’t realize you slip card in and out quickly. I wasn’t quick enough. This time no place to slip it in at all. I had to ask a passing guy how to do it. There’s an eye that reads the card! Just show it the card. I remember room keys.
Since I didn’t sleep much, I was worried about driving back. Another new experience was stopping at a rest stop which was better than I envisioned. I really had to pee. It was hot, and overcast most of the way because of fires. I had to adjust my rear view mirror because I found myself slumping.
All in all I didn’t get lost once and I took the right exit in Oregon: nobody tried to kill me on this trip, as opposed to other trips. I just came across one jackass in a company van. Jackass.
Coming home I did all right until the freeway exit. I stopped at the light but I seemed to be too far into the cross road. And I got all confused about the car gears when I wanted to move back. So very tired.
I just wish I could have bought that house.
