I’m over 800 days on duolingo, not that I was there every day, sometimes I just fucked off but I had credits to cover it.

Anyway, I was translating a sentence, picking out the English words, and I realized that the English expression “right away” is very, very weird. Why did we pick two random words out of the ether, jam them together and say, that means soon? Why does it mean that? How would anybody studying English understand that? Right away, right away, right away, I’ve been going over this for days. No sense.

I had credit on Amazon so I rented the movie, The Beekeeper. I have very narrow parameters for certain kinds of mindless action films that I enjoy. I don’t know what the parameters are but I know them when I see them. And I’ve enjoyed Jason Statham movies, but except for the violent scenes where he takes everybody out, this is…not good. It’s like guys in film school have seen every movie ever made and when they make one, it’s like every movie you’ve ever seen. No characters you won’t recognize and check off your list. The nice black lady whose death compels Jason to revenge her. The kick-ass female FBI agent who drinks too much and has issues. Sleazy rich kids, nefarious politicians. All here and acting as expected.

So, as I had insomnia after viewing (just happenstance), I put on a worthy extravaganza of violence, Nobody. That’s the way to do it.

odd crap, movies
