Strawberry Shortcake
The perfect dessert.
When I first moved down the Peninsula (in the Bay Area) I used to go to Burlingame a lot. That’s a ritzy little town but the street with the shops was filled with practical places. There was even a 5&10. Then the Silicon Valley hit. The street turned into expensive clothes stores, one after another.
Anyway, there was a bakery where I found the best biscuits ever. Not too sweet and they made the perfect strawberry shortcake base. I was used to the cake things you bought at the grocery but they somehow weren’t quite right. I’ll never go back to the cakes but I’m always trying to duplicate those biscuits.
The liquid that results when you add sugar to strawberries is the elixir of the gods.
