Sundry things

I just read Bettyville by George Hodgmen, nonfiction. The author moved back to Missouri to take care of his mother who is in her 90s. He’s gay but it was something that was never discussed in the family. His mother is fiercely independent and fighting to keep control of her life; he is dealing with some obvious failings in her health and capabilities. He is also back home after a life in New York as an editor and writer, and trying to keep sober.

Good read if maybe a trifle too long.

My latest $2 buys at the Library.
Dvds
The Lost Room, a tv movie that should have been a series. Very good until the last 15 minutes when it fell apart.
The Last Emperor
Swingers

Books
Eating Well, Serves Two I don’t know why I keep buying cookbooks but I’m easily seduced and become delusional about the life I lead.

Another book I bought, used, was Paul Hollywood’s bread book because I want to make French bread like he did on tv.

Oh, and my ongoing, if sporadic, “things I like at Trader Joe’s”

Artichoke

That meme of putting on your mp3 player and recording the first 10 songs.

Is She Really Going Out with HIm, Joe Jackson
I’ll Try, Conway Twitty
Just Married, Marty Robbins
Am I Wasting My Time, Eli “Paperboy” Reed
This Time, Chris Isaak
The Jealous Kind, Delbert McClinton
Heaven Must Have Sent You, Bonnie Pointer
