Writer's Block: Words that you love and hate

What are your favorite and least favorite words? Any reasons why?

First let me say, I just discovered and rather like these prompting questions. This one is creative, intriguing, and makes the brain juice flow somewhat. For me, at least.

I would have to say that glittering (or a variation thereof, ie; glittered) would be one of my favorite words of all time - I can't really describe why other than to say that in the proper context the images this word conjurs in my mind are more detailed and beautiful than any other word has ever created for me. I first fell in love with the word in its many forms in 10th grade. It was either in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (sp?) or Beowulf - can't recall which of the two, but I'm thinking the former - and the way it was used appealed to me so much that it has stuck with me ever since. And though I may not remember exactly which story, I do remember the context because of the image it gave me - the soldiers with their glittering knives. So out of the ordinary for such a dangerous weapon to be described with a word that usually denotes such beauty. Perhaps that is why it appealed to me so, because of its uncommon use. All I know is because of that line, and that image, to this day, the word glittering makes me happy. Yes, a word makes me happy. Like I said, it's kind of hard to describe.
