One of the quirks about my job is that my title is different within my department than it is outside of my department, which lends itself to (not-so-much) hilarity. Outside of my department, my title is "Administrative Assistant III." The III means that I am superior to I and II. Basically, this is just a verbal representation of my pay scale, and has nothing to do with what I actually do on a day-to-day basis. That's where my departmental title comes in, I guess.
My departmental title is "Development Assistant," which basically means that I answer only to the Chief Development Officer. I also have my own tasks, which include asking people to give me stuff for free, "guiding" a committee in planning an event, and other awesome things; however, most of the time I just sort of do what my boss tells me to do. Luckily, I like my boss a lot, and we work together very well. She treats her position as my boss as one of teacher and equal, which is really wonderful.
This week, my boss is on vacation. This means that, although I should really not be accountable to anyone, everyone thinks that I should be doing their jobs, instead of mine. I just had a coworker send me a document so that I could format it to fit on letterhead. Yes. Really. Welcome to technology.
I am not a secretary. The only person that seems to realize that is my boss, and, in all actuality, I sort of am her secretary. Sometimes.
I also feel a little like a pariah, because I am the CEO of the Federation's daughter-in-law. If it were up to me, no one would know this; however, my sister-in-law works downstairs, and she likes to introduce me to everyone (even if I am not around). Oh Jew politics, will you ever end? (The answer, of course, is "no")
