Success (of sorts)

Well, the new place looks more like a home and less like a moving box collection now. Hubby was awesome about setting up the kitchen (there really is only room for one in there, so he decided to be the one), and I handled the bedrooms and bathrooms (3/2.5). We worked together on the living and dining rooms. We've eaten out a whole lot more than either I or our budget were completely comfortable with, and last night my plan was to cook our first dinner in.

Yesterday was our appointment with AT&T to have U-Verse installed. I'd ordered it online - cable with HD and DVR, internet at their fastest speed and telephone service. The package included a generous rebate after the first paid month. I wanted it installed on Tuesday (which was the date that was open and selected when I ordered it online), but when I got the confirmation, they'd moved installation to Thursday. I called and argued with them, but no dice. "Atlanta has been very busy recently." Fine.

So yesterday morning, at 8:30 we get the call - "This is Blank, I'm on my way to do your install." He fooled around with stuff until around noon, and couldn't get "Synch" whatever that meant. He called for help, left for lunch, and we never saw him again. Around 3:30, the "help" arrived. He was apparently an "outside guy" and didn't do installs. But he got "Synch" and told us they were sending out someone between 4 and 9 PM to complete the install. Around 5 a guy shows up who has no problem with doing what needs doing, but he was told it was a repair, not an incomplete install, so he didn't have the right paperwork or something. We got to know him well since he didn't leave until after 9PM. But at that time, we had Cable TV and internet. No phone service. He gave me a number to call if things didn't happen in the morning. Needless to say, they didn't.

I called around 11 AM to find out what was going on. The girl was having some difficulty figuring it all out and said she'd call me back. When it got to 3:30 PM, I called again. This time, I spent OVER AN HOUR on the phone with another girl who finally admitted that SHE couldn't work it out either, and not only that, but the order they had showed no phone service ordered, and a smaller Cable package than I had requested. She finally said I'd hear back from her no later than MONDAY. For crying out loud!

How much you want to bet I don't get my rebate, either?

I didn't even get to cook my first dinner at home, since hubby wanted to go out after the twelve hour install experience. We went to a local bar and restaurant we'd been to once before, drank beer, ate and watched the Steelers pound Philly. Not an entirely bad trade off. :)
