And the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down...

It is raining today. This would not be news, except that it's been raining A LOT recently. So much so that over the weekend a lot of roads and bridges were closed, property destroyed and our basement flooded.
When I got up on Saturday, there was 2-3 inches of standing water. Apparently, the ground had become saturated and water was bubbling up under the foundation of the house getting in wherever it could. My mom woke up my dad (he's on night shift and had only been asleep a couple hours, poor guy) and they and my brother went out to slope the ground to run the water away from the house. Which left me alone in the house, sponging up  and wringing out water all day. It was tedious, frustrating and horrible. My hands hurt, both from the soreness of squeezing and from rubbing them on the rags, and my legs and back hurt from bending and squatting all afternoon.
I really shouldn't complain. It could have been much, much worse. And most of the soreness is gone now.

I am a little bit worried about the rain we're getting this week though (they're predicting 11 inches by Saturday).  I hope the it's still running away from the house. On Saturday, it stopped raining around noon (thankfully) and water was still bubbling out of the ground Sunday morning.

On a completely unrelated note, how is it the beginning of April tomorrow? APRIL. This means a fourth of 2009 is already over and that it's been almost a year since I graduated high school. When did that happen? Time marches on.

I am looking forward to summer though. And being done with this semester, which is going to be challenging in its last month. Yay! For finals! And papers and tests and presentations and homework! Grrrr.

I will, however, assuming I pass, which I'd better, be finished with English and math (except for statistics). This is my happy thought for the week. No more Algebra! Ever! (I feel like I should erase this, like saying it is going to jinx it, and they'll change the requirements or something).
