I don't even know what day it is. Maybe the 8th? Maybe the 9th? Maybe
Saturday, Sunday, or Monday? I don't know. What I do know, however, is
that I'm one hundred percent dissipated in relaxation here in the
glorious sandy beaches of Goa. Today and Yesterday Danielle and I have
been in Palolem, which is famous among Israeli soldiers. There are
hundreds of beautiful people running along the beache4s with scant
amounts of clothing and ADanielle and I have agreed that being here
makes us feel fat (but it doesn't stop us from indulging in the
edelicious butter Naan and milky creamy curries and sweet fresh
squeezed juices. If we're going to be fat we might as well be happily
fat.
I'm finding it hard not to buy everything I see here. There is so uch
beautiful stuff and everything is exactly what I want, which makes it
very difficult to bargain effectively. Of course bargaining isn't one
of my strong suits, as I've recently learned. I'm frequently fleeced-
having bought one thing somewhere for 100 rupees only to learn that
it's 40 rupees elsewhere. Danielle laughs at me because it's really
only a dollar difference and they probably need that dollar more than
I do but it makes me feel like a fool. Yuck. Anyway, so we're here on
the beautiful beaches of Palolem and patnem beach and we were in
Benaulim a few days ago. We weren't expecting to spend so many days on
the beach but trains out of goa are full for days on end and the
soonest train we can get to Kochi, where I want to go next, was on the
9th.
We've acquired a pleasant German named Christian who approached us on
the second day in Mumbai. He's very nice and very funny and awkward
and gets horrible deals on stuff but doesn't seem to care much. Some
funny things about Christian: He almost drowned while riding a bike in
a ditch
He almost drowned while running in the water
He's here, on the beaches with us.
There are dolphins out in the distance. They're gorgeous. The whole
place is gorgeous. We went to this Island called Elephanta island with
all these caves and huge statues of Parvati and Shiva and we went to a
mosque where we befriended a bunch of children and learned all their
names.. Rukshar, Umayi...
I like India. I wish we weren't trapped here on these beautiful
beaches by the transportation system when we could be seeing the rest
of the place. It's very disapointing to flyall the way here just to
spend time on the beach. But, honestly though. It's not bad. For
example: For breakfast Danielle and I walked 20 minutes to a place
that serves the best cappucinos in miles and also has chocolate
croissants and on the way back we were so hot in the beating sun that
I took of my shirt (don't worry- still had the bathing suit top on)
and we bought mango and chocolate popsicles. The sun made them melt
quickly so we had to scarf them down really fast and Danielle said, as
we were surrounded by palm trees and sweating under the midday sun (we
had breakfast late) "It's January" and we both started cackling.
On the train here... the legendary indian train... we had top bunks
and were positioned above the fans. It was too bad but my fault for
requesting them- I didn't want to be stepped all over. There were
countless bugs crawling on the wall next to my bed. I killed them. No
buddhist here, mom.
Much love.
