Close encounters of the stinky kind

I took a brief walk for a late lunch today and had an unusual experience that hope never to repeat.

It's hot as heck today, which is not always readily apparent in the cool concrete of my office, but is almost oppressive when you venture into open spaces baked by the sun. I had to drop some campus mail at the afternoon drop box so I wandered in the direction of College 8. Because of the heat it was easy to decide that finding a shady spot to eat lunch was important. I found a table that someone had dragged into a clearing under some trees near the College 8 garden. It seemed the perfect spot for eating a leisurely lunch and writing a letter.

But just as I finished my salad a SKUNK appeared and started running in trajectory dangerously close to me! I froze and through my paralyzing horror was able to remain unnoticed by the skunk less than 15 feet away. That's when I decided it was time to come back to the office...
