MGMT came out with a new
video for my favorite song on their album, "Kids." It's a hairy, gross, weird trip in three acts. It is also pretty awesome.
I caught (and <3) this
blog entry about the first ever recording, "Clair De La Lune."
"I have played the March 2008 version of the phonautogram hundreds of times in the last year, always relishing the image of a young lady, in a corset and funny hat, warbling into Leon Scott's phonautograph horn."
Also, Free Press Houston is planning a new
Summer Music Fest, with headliners Broken Social Scene, Of Montreal, Voxtrot, Explosions in the Sky, The Sword and The Octopus Project. Also tons of local groups like The Tontons, Muhammad Ali, The Riff Tiffs, Wild Mocassins, etc. This is HUGE for Houston, since we seem to be subtly sliding off the map for music in Texas. The majority of bands I like that are touring this summer are playing a show in Dallas and Austin, but not Houston, and I don't really get why. Dallas has never seemed like a mecca of...anything to me. Aside from rich folks. I'd argue that the arts and music scene in Houston is much stronger, yet we're getting passed over. Thankfully Free Press Houston is trying to do something about that. They already organize the Westheimer Block Party music fest each spring, which takes place in clubs along Westheimer Road, and now they're adding an outdoors summerfest to their roster. Sweet. I bought my ticket yesterday. The park is a walk or bike ride away from our house. Magical!
