We've had bad luck in the lab this week. Many failed experiments, a paper rejected from a journal, and return of nasty weather all meant that today was disappointing. So K and I went on a mission to find some happiness at the end of the work week. We went in search of ping pong.
There are ping pong afficionados where I work who play everyday at lunch time. They have mad skills. They also apparently have their own balls because all the ones next to the table are BROKEN. We tried to make do with the least broken one, but it wasn't going well. More bad luck!
Then a nice guy told us of a woman who stores the CRACK extra ping pong balls, so we went to find her. She wasn't in her office though. I asked the guy next door if he knew anything about ping pong balls. Awkward moment! He did not. Bring on more bad luck!
Well, it seemed that ping pong couldn't bring us joy. We turned to chocolate. And then the vending machine refused to take my money! It refused to take money from another guy who works on a hall. Apparently, the vending machine was too good for us.
At that point, we felt pretty rejected. Bad experiments, no ping pong, and no chocolate.
But then, we had a savior who made the whole day better. The guy who had tried to help us find a ping pong ball before showed up again, this time with an intact ball that he said we could keep. Yea!
K and I are both really bad at ping pong, but by that point, we were just thrilled that we got to play. Good luck returned! Then I successfully extracted DNA, did some PCR, and got to go home and enjoy the weekend. Phew. Hopefully good luck will return to the lab on Monday.
