Elizabeth is such a gift of a character, and you write her amazingly well.

Oh, thank you so much! You're very kind to say so! :-)

Even as a young girl, she's already cunning enough to wrap her father around her dainty little finger.

Absolutely! Elizabeth's definitely one smart cookie, clever and resourceful, as well as gutsy. No wonder Weatherby's so proud of her (even when he's been on the receiving end of her sly finger-wrapping ways). ;-)

And though Weatherby sees through her scheming...

Yes, no flies on Weatherby either! :-)

...there's nothing he can do, for his daughter is quite obviously the apple of his eye.

It's clear Weatherby loves her dearly and, thus, has a hard time saying "no" to Elizabeth, opting to indulge her and do what he thinks will make her happy (if he sees no direct harm in doing so, that is), rather than be the "bad guy" in her eyes and deny her what she wants.

I love how you write old Weatherby, by the way, he's a much neglected character in the fandom.

I've always loved Jonathan Pryce's work, ever since I saw him in the film "Something Wicked This Way Comes" back in the 80's. I had the privilege of meeting him, briefly, when he was appearing in the musical "Miss Saigon" on Broadway. We waited at the stage door of the theatre after the show to ask him (and other cast members) for their autographs, and he was ever so kind and gracious! (That autographed programme remains one of my most cherished theatrical souvenirs.) He's a very talented actor, and he brings such a wonderful, endearing quality to Weatherby Swann, it's impossible NOT to love the character. (And I agree--there are far too few Weatherby Swann fics out there!) :-)

The little scene with Will playing Sir Walter Raleigh was really touching, and I actually find myself developing a soft spot for his character.

Thanks! That was a fun scene to write, showing a little more playful side of Will than we were privileged to see, letting him and Elizabeth actually BE the children they were back then, as well as showing his budding devotion to Elizabeth and his and Weatherby's shared dedication to making her happy.

Well done!

Again, thank you so much for reading, and for your very kind comments! I'm glad you're enjoying the story thus far! :-)
