Warnings: This sucks. really. I'm only posting it bc there seems to be a lack of fics lately and I makes me sad that less and less people are writing Gabilliam. But really, this is no good.
Notes: I got thinking of you stuck in my head the other day, and this was the result.

THINKING OF YOU
He’s not exactly sure of what he’s doing there. It’s not like they’re friends, hardly even acquaintances. He’s seen her around in parties, and so has she, but Gabe doubts that they ever had a conversation that went past ‘Hi’.
She is already sitting down when he shows up, and does not see him until he’s sat right in front of her. They don’t say anything, just nod in recognition of the other’s presence.
Gabe can tell, from the look on her eyes, that she is heartbroken. Her hands are a bit shaky when she grabs her coffee, and Gabe has to help her steady them before she can take a sip.
“I’m sorry for calling you, I just… I didn’t…” She begins after a few minutes of silence.
“No, it’s… it’s okay, I get it.”
“I don’t know how you… how can you handle this?” She asks, tears already forming in her eyes.
“I can’t. I don’t,” Gabe admits, “I try not to think about it, and just, go with it.”
Katy looks at him like he’s talking nonsense. Her face is a mess of tear-washed make up and her expression does nothing but strengthen her crazy looks.
“It’s so hard, you know,” She starts again, “Waiting for him at home when I already know he’s coming late.”
“I know how it feels,” Gabe nods, and his heart shrinks at the thought.
Neither of them says anything for a few minutes. They’re minds wander to a very similar place. They can both picture it without even trying, Dark skin against creamy one, hands travelling up and down, bruising kisses and moaned words, and suddenly they’re both crying.
It’s not fair, that they’re going through this. It’s not fair that they’re sulking and crying and hating each other while the ones they love are together, enjoying each other and not thinking about them.
“I don’t know how you do it,” Katy declares, “How you give out this confident, happy image on the outside, while on the inside you’re broken.”
“It hurts him, when he sees me sad. I see it in his eyes every time, and it kills me to see him sad. I can’t show weakness, because he flakes when he sees me like that.”
“And when he does, he goes back to Travie…” Katy adds.
“Exactly, and I can’t have him like that. He’s always a wreck after he comes back from seeing him… He feels so guilty; you would think he has just committed murder…”
“…he might as well have.”
“He feels so bad about it that it’s almost like I get mad at myself for causing him that pain.”
“You blame yourself.”
“I don’t, in fact. I blame casualties, I blame life. I blame bad places at bad times, and timing that got against us.”
Katy nods, but Gabe knows she doesn’t agree with him. They both know what the other is probably thinking about, but they can’t help it. They blame each other, even though they know they shouldn’t. Katy thinks that it’s all Gabe’s fault, for taking drugs and partying hard and not being there for William when he needed it. Gabe, on the other hand, is confident that if Katy hadn’t been a freak control over Travis, he wouldn’t have run to William for comfort, and nothing ever would have happened.
“You are not mad at him?”
“How could I be? He’s too sweet to me, too careful and caring, and I can find a way of resenting him.”
“But, nevertheless, he’s cheating on you,” Katy’s tone is a bit bitter, but Gabe doesn’t mind, he can’t blame her for it.
“He is indeed, but he doesn’t want to. I know him too well to almost know what he thinks. Travie is like this, guilty pleasure for him. The one thing he feels bad about wanting, that he hates to love.”
“You say love…”
“He’s not in love with him. And neither is Travis, if that’s what worries you.”
“How can you know that?”
“Because I feel it, whenever I’m with Bill. There’s so much love coming from him when we’re together, that he can’t possibly love someone else. And Travis, when I hear him talking about you… It’s like you’re the fucking centre of his universe.”
Katy lifts an eyebrow, but it’s really hard to notice, with all that black make up storming her eyes. It’s obvious why she does it, though. She didn’t know Gabe and Travis ever saw each other.
They do, really. They are pretty good friends, or at least they try to be. It makes Bill a little less upset, when they get along. Plus, they knew each other way before Bill and Travis started seeing each other, way before Gabe and William fell in love.
They hang out, once in a while, just the two of them. It’s their way of making sure there are no hard feelings between them, and a way of letting everything out of their chests. They almost always get drunk together, and they cry and laugh and confess everything. That is how Gabe knows how much Travis loves Katy, and how much he hates himself for hating her.
“It’s all a vicious circle. We make them upset, they go to each other, they feel bad about it and come to us, but that makes us upset, and they feel so bad that they run to each other again,” Gabe says.
“But it shouldn’t be. They should be able to stop this… thing they have going. They should realize that we’re a million times better than them.”
It makes Gabe feel bad, that Katy is so angry at him, at Travis, at the world. It stops her from seeing things in perspective, and makes her bitter. It’s sad, really, because that is what is breaking her and Travis apart.
“You shouldn’t let it come between you and Trav,” Gabe says, “I know it’s hard, and you probably think it’s impossible, but it would do you a lot of good. It would make you better.”
“You say it as though it was easy. I can’t… I can’t stand him being with someone else…”
“I know it hurts, trust me, I know,” Gabe says earnestly, “But I also know that this is driving you two apart. Your jealousy sends him to Bill.”
Katy breaks into tears then, and Gabe is sure that he’s never seen such a heartbreaking scene in his life. Her whole body trembles, making her pearls clatter and her headband fall to the side. She looks just wrecked, like nothing in the world could make her better.
Gabe tries to hold her hand, but she shoves him away, glaring at him as though he was the one cheating on her, breaking her heart.
A cell phone starts beeping, and it takes a few seconds before Gabe realizes it’s him. He takes it out and reads the text trying not to be too obvious, already knowing that it’s from William.

‘Come home. W.’

He can’t help but to smile at the W, like he didn’t know the text was from Bill. He has him saved on his phone, of course he does, but even if he didn’t, he’s known William’s number for years now.
Katy seems no notice the change in Gabe’s expression, how he’s lightened up after reading the text. She scowls at him, and again, Gabe feels bad for her. If only she were a little more accepting and a little less bitter, things would be better for her.
He twitches in his seat, anxious to get to Bill but unsure of leaving Katy there.
“You don’t have to stay because of me,” Katy says, “I know he’s waiting for you.”
“Maybe this time will be different,” Gabe shrugs, standing up.
“Not for me.”
“It’s all about dealing you know, about controlling your emotions.”
“Maybe you can,” she whispers, “But I’m not that girl. I hope it works out for you, as it didn’t for me.”
Gabe nods, for once agreeing completely with Katy. Leaning over her, he places a kiss on her temple and brushes his fingertips to her cheek. She stills under his touch, and then moves away from him exaggeratedly. He leaves the café with a ghostly smile on his lips, feeling as clueless about their meeting as he had before showing up.
His phone vibrates on his pocket, and he doesn't even have to check before picking up. The voice from the other side of the speaker makes his heart melt, and yes, Gabe is pretty sure that he can deal with it.
