Wow so I just got back from my first paying job, right? And that's not terribly noteworthy to the rest of you -- except that it was as a 'paid stand-by'. Which means these people paid me 12.50$/hr. this morning to sit in at a run-through incase one of the girls didn't show up. I went over there (18th and Lavaca at the Scottish Right Theatre) yesterday and tried on costumes and stuff and they altered a dress and figured out the hem lines for these pants and gave me a script, which I had memorized by this morning. It was the worst script I've possibly ever read - a screwed up adaptation of King Arthur, whatever.
And so the production manager is calling me sometime next week to inform me whether she needs me next Saturday.
But the point is -- everyone tells you that it's impossible to get jobs acting. Well I didn't even have to audition for this (I was simply recommended), and I almost went up this morning for the show at 10AM (the girl was half an hour late) -- and I got paid to do something I love.
There are things I can do - even at this stage - with what I've been training for the past 7 years. That is so comforting.
Being a standby is really not that bad, though. You figure that job sucks so much, but as long as you're getting paid to do it and aren't required at all rehearsals and can leave as soon as the actress you're rehearsed under shows up. Good. deal.
Anyway -- that's my little note. See you choir folks at the choir party tonight. Let's just hope Davis keeps his clothes on.
