I loved Tipping The Velvet, but hated the TV adaptation of it. I also read two of her other books, and didn't care for them - the one set in WWII that went backward did my head in, and the other one (Fingersmith, or something like that) just didn't work for me. But Tipping the Velvet had a wonderful feeling of place and time.

I came to Tipping the Velvet by way of its television adaptation first and then had to hunt down the book for comparison, which I now favor. I reveled in her lush descriptions and was a bit sad when it came to an end.

I'm with you on the Night Watch (the one set in WWII) -- I barely managed to read it. For some reason, I don't think I finished reading Fingersmith.

Interesting short meme. Nice picks on your end; am doing my blog now so I'll tack this onto the end of it, thanks!
