Trust me, this is worth the read:
Thursday:
I woke up very early to meet Mr Metrobear @ the airport. There was a blizzard in NY and we were nervous aabout delays and cancellations. Luckily, the flight only went out 15 minutes later than expected. I was extremely nervous nervous because I have only flew a few times b4. George was amazing. He talked me through it, ans helped me feel so much better. It was a smooth flight and we had great convos. I love my Georgie.
We landed in SF, and headed on the BART TRANSIT. THIS PLACE WAS VERY WEIRD AND I FELT I WAS IN BIZZARRO WORLD.
I've never been this far from the east coast, so everything from the bathrooms to the trees was interesting. We checked in the hotel, grabbed food and relaxed. We registered for the convention and I chose to sit in the room and sleep off the jetlag. I watched bad tv and cuddled myself to sleep.
Friday:
We had nothing to do until 7. George went out the nite b4, so he was sleeping and I was bored off my face. If I watched 1 more episode of wife swap, I was goona die. I posted to facebook and got a response from a girl I rushed rent with many years ago. She lives right down the street from the hotel. She met up with me, smoked me up.....a lot and gave me a little to survive on 4 the weekend. She took me to eat @ the best fast food in the world: In and Out Borger. Omg, YUM! ANIMAL STYLE!!!
Then she got pics of me in front of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and a few other places. I went to get sourdough bread, taffy and a tshirt, then we took the famous trolleys back 2 the hotel. It was everything I wanted to do in a matter of 5 hours.
Then she took me to the Effin CatScratch Club that they used in the RENT Movie! It was awesome.1a and I thought it couldn't get better
We then split company and I went to do contestent stuff.
We had a huge intro and did our growl. Then we sold raffle tix 2 raise $$$ for charity. It was a very very fun nite and we got lots of good attention. After that, I didn't party, cause we had a busy day ahead of us. I went hto the hotel to crash and "burn".
Saturday:
Bloddy mary mixer, free mimosas (I had 14), and socializing.
Then we all met Kevin Smith (Silent Bob), we got autographs and he did some speaking. Very cool. We were then bussed to a bar for a cocktail hour, we sold more tickets, drank and made our faces known. We also had a private party and judge introduction @ the Powerhouse bar. Mmmm free food and yep...more drinks.
Back to the hotel for a costume change, and off the the Hanky Dance. It was a hoot, I loved watched these bears dosido and line dance together. More raffle sales, huge intro and an announcement about our community involvement.
Then the hotel room to change, and I went to about 4 partys throughout the hotel, over the course of the evening.
Sunday:
For those who don't know: this is the like Miss America for Bears.
We all got together for a walkthru. There was a group number we had practice for, and placement on stage etc..... this kept us busy for 5 hours. As this was happening, the judges were pulling us out 1 @ a time for our interview in front of the panel. In my interview, I was cool and comfortable and just hung out and chatted with them. It went very well.
Then we had time to relax and chill b4 the big events.
I met up with Jess Heathco, who was practically my best freind?/roommate in college. We caught up and chatted, and it was surreal to see her after 10 to 15 years.
Then we had a coktail mixer, free drinks, and the big fuctiondinner, which was yummy and very enjoyable.
Then we left dinner and got ready for the big contest.
There are 4 titles: Mr interational cub, grizzly, daddy and the highest one: Mr International Bear. I was running for cub (of course).
Well, we did the group number, than bear minimum, the cruise wear and a public question and answer time. Then some awards happend, andthe titles were given.
Mr Cub was called and I didn't get it. I wasn't crushed, but instead very happy for the guy who won.
Mr daddy was called, and that guy completely deserved that title.
Mr Grizzly was called and it was my Georgie. I don't think anyone deserved it more than him. I got so excited and happy. I jumped screamed and cried. Georgie is the biggest help and inspiration I had all weekend, hell, since we won in NY.
Then
Mr International Bear 2010: JD LEGGETT!!!!! Holy shit! Not just america...international. I won the highest title in the contest. I heard him say my name and it didn't register at all. I looked around the crowd for the "JD" guy and until I realized everyone was looking @ me, I had no clue. Then my heart dropped. I covered my face and I slowly walked forward, still thinking it was a mistake. They gave me a medal, a leather patch and a bear (plus an assortment of other fabulous prizes. There was music and pictures and hugs. It was so surreal. They took us to the hotel lounge for champaygne and cake. There were people coming to me giving business cards, offereing to put me in their gear, people want to fly me to their states to represent. Its gonna be a busy year. I expect to be many places and raising money for many charities. The guy last year told me he was in a different place every weekend all year and its still going. I am so excited. This is gonna make me somebody. I can feel what its going to do, and its gonna be amazinf!
More partying ensued and I didn't go to bed, until 2 hours before I had to get up.
Monday (today):
A bit of socializing. And now we are so exhausted and @ the airport waiting forour plane. I can't wait to get back to NYC, my home is calling me.
