Harlot is my favorite disparaging term for a prostitute, I think. But only when used sparingly, or it loses its punch.

Lady of the night is my favorite term for a prostitute. But only because Sarah Gidlewski told me once of how she was talking about prostitutes (I guess in a historical reference?) and she used the word prostitute, "Don't use that word!" reacted Jane. "What should I say?" "um...ladies of the night."

I enjoy the idea of it being the proper term to use for all cases. Oh Jane!
