Dr. Sard, my Human Development professor, is a great woman, and here's why. On Monday, my Counseling Theory professor went on some "those were the days" rants about how kids these days are drinking at 12 and generally lack self-control unlike the kids of the 1950s. This resulted in me grinning, as I remembered something funny that happened last year with Lisa and I. Marist's Student Programming Council was hosting an event called "50's Night" and the advertisements talked about swing dancing and poodle skirts. Lisa and I wondered if the partiers would be subject to random duck-and-cover drills during the festivities, if the Black students had to enter through a different door than the White students, and if women would be serving the refreshments wearing aprons and pearls. On Wednesday, Dr. Sard talked about how seeing two sides of an issue is a sign of mental maturity. She said that many people talk about the 50's like it was such a great time in American history when, in reality, women couldn't get respectable jobs, Blacks were segregated, and the US was in a cold war. You go, Dr. Sard!
I was doing quite the happy dance earlier this afternoon. Why? Because I got an e-mail from the Mets telling me that I've been selected to purchase tickets for possible National League Championship Series games at Shea!!!! Now I'm really hoping they make it to the NLCS. With the way they've been playing lately, I don't know if that's in their future though.
