We've got RAIN!!!!

Oct 27, 2007 20:24

We've had rain on and off all day today.  Total answer to prayer.   I was up in Reno last weekend visiting my brother before he and his fiance move to North Carolina - so I missed the worst of the winds, but I saw 4 different fires from the plane as I landed at LAX!

My aunt & uncle in Rancho Bernardo had to evacuate last Sunday night.  I haven't heard anything more, but my Mom was able to reach his home answering machine, so that's a HUGE relief.  I have a cousin and her family from Ramona who also were evac'd to my Mom's house but were able to go home Thursday.  But while they were at my Mom's, that whole household was put on high alert to evac too!  They had everything packed up and were just waiting for the signal to go - my Mom lives just above Rancho San Diego.

We're fine here - just smokey and my pool is full of ash.  Simi Valley go the worst of the wind though - my staked-in composter sailed clear across my yard, I found a lawn chair 75 feet from its original spot, blew 1/2 of the leaves & 1/2 of the oranges off of my tree....scared the crap outta my cat!  My patio roof is stripped of its tarpaper but the house roof itself is fine.  Allan's Mom's house has to have her whole roof re-done due to wind damage.

My visit with my brother & his fiance was AWESOME!!  Filled with wonderful conversation, wonderful food, wonderful sights!  We really had a great visit.  I am going to miss them - but I am so envious of this new adventure that they're going on.  But the icing on the cake was getting to hear Greg play his guitar on Sunday.  He started going to this church and was asked to play in their band and I went on Sunday.  It had been so long since I'd been to church - I didn't realize how much I missed it until I sat down and the music started playing.  And seeing Greg up there playing was something that I never in a million years thought I'd see.  He had sworn off God in the 80's and that's the last I remember.

So I'm going to a church tomorrow that he recommended down here just 1 mile from my house (his best friend from high school goes there).  I can't wait!

On another note - I've applied to the local community college and am waiting to take my Math/English placement test.  I tried out a sample test and the English was no problem....the math........totally different story.  I have a feeling that I'm going to be placed with all the "special" kids.  :-)  The very first question, my eyes started to cross and I think I drooled a little.  Oh boy.

But I can't tell you all how much I'm looking forward to going to school.  Now it's just a matter of trying to convince Allan to support me so I can be a full time student. :-)  He says dream on and that he didn't have kids for a reason. ;-)

Love to all!!
