Let's start with a little time warp because I haven't posted pictures in a few days.
I mentioned that when I was in San Francisco last week, I went to see kittens in the window at Macy's. It's a program with the SF SPCA where they show off animals for adoption and shoppers go mad and adopt the cute fuzzy guys. Each animal has it's own little theme decorated showcase. This year's theme was holiday movies. In the afternoon, most of the cats were napping. But this little guy was rather animated (for you,
orangey):
And here's a couple of sleeping kitties just to show you the sets. There was tons of detail. The more I looked at them, the more things I noticed.
In the evening, we went back and there were new kittens, some quite animated. But it was dark and I only had my phone camera.
I told you about the San Fran show. I had the planned night of sloth that I expected. I worked.
And then I spent Saturday at a
spa. Really, this is an adult amusement park. I started with a morning massage. Then I had the "foot fantasy" at noon. Think the swankiest pedicure you've ever had. Yes, massage chair; yes, parafin dip; yes, exfoliating scrub; yes, massage. But also you are reclined in a massage chair with a warmed blanket on you, a warmed neck roll, and a warmed eye mask. It was more like a nap where I woke up with pretty toes. I made liberal use of the other spa amenities. A long soak in the hot tub. A short stay in the cool misting room. A long nap in the quiet room (cushy recliners with pillows and blankets each separated by long drapes in a quiet dim room -- I read until I passed out). I lounged on the outdoor patio (yay Santa Monica in December!). I sat in the sauna.
evybodylivinnow and I have been searching for the perfect day spa, and this place by far takes the cake. It's not a salon which also offers massages and facials, but a spa where you might get your hair done. When I finally tore myself away, I had dinner at a lovely italian place on The Promenade. And then back to my hotel for more reading and napping. I crashed around 10pm.
One of the things I like about spas is a bit of people watching with respect to attitudes about nudity. When I entered the spa in the morning, everyone I saw was naked. As the day wore on, I saw more and more people in their bathing suits. Oddly, most of those were in the "social tub", which is the hot tub where conversation is permitted. People still seemed to be naked in the "quiet tub". So maybe it's okay to be naked if you're not going to be talking? Neither age nor body type seemed to play a factor. And in addition to the swimsuits, there was also one young woman (mid-20s) who joined me in the sauna for a bit wearing just her panties. She was a bad spa citizen too, and left her towels on the bench in the sauna instead of putting them in the bin.
Sunday morning I spent moving into my hotel room more completely. I'm here for 2.5 weeks this time and so I decided to get comfy. I deliberated on choosing an extended stay type of place where I'd have a kitchenette, but I figured I wouldn't actually cook dinner for myself, so instead decided to stay at my favorite haunt,
The Ayres. It doesn't have a full kitchen, but it does have a generous mini fridge and a microwave. And it's just so damned nice. Marble bathrooms, luxurious bed, couch and table. So I made it feel just a bit homier. I unpacked into the drawers, I stowed my suitcase. I stocked the "wet bar" area with breakfast food and snacks. I bought a couple of dishes at Target so I have something to eat off of. All it needs is a few kitties.
In the afternoon, I headed out to meet
i_iambe to head to San Diego for the last show of the tour. But this is long and I have a bunch of photos from the show, so I'll end now and post on that later.
