I had off work today-so I spent my afternoon at the movies!

Becky and I went and watched The Hunger Games! Soooo good!

The movie itself was long-but it never felt that way. If anything it actually felt a little rushed. So much was kind of blown through and I will say that if I hadn't read the books I might not have felt the same way about the movie as I do.

The biggest "change" was the pin. Very little else deviated from the book. There was stuff cut out-but I was pleasantly surprised to find so few changes to the story line!

The Reaping- I cried. I didn't expect to cry here, especially since it was so rushed and pretty much the first part of the movie-but they did a great job of showing the kids fear of the reaping-you could see it on everyone's face and the relief when another name was called... I cried when Katniss volunteered...

The train ride-this was rushed, we had hardly any scenes on the train before they reached the capitol. I was just a tad disappointed that they didn't have the scene where they are eating and Effie remarks about their manners being better than the previous two and they start eating sloppy... But in the scheme of things I understood that wasn't an "important" scene.

The Capitol- It was different than I imagined it-but it was a good image of excess and the fashion was so goofy. It might have been a bit extreme but it worked.

The team- I was disappointed that Katniss's team was never really presented. You barely saw them-there were no names exchanged... While I know they weren't very important in the first book-they pop up again later and I had hoped we'd have gotten a glimpse of them now.

Cinna- Great! I seriously think it was pretty much dead on-but the relationship developed a bit out of nowhere... Relationship development was not a strong point in this movie-one of the reasons I said reading the books might have influenced my opinions.

Rue- This was probably the most under developed relationship in the movie. She basically showed up-saved Katniss TWICE-and it never explains why she trusted Katniss to begin with, it never explained why Katniss felt so quickly for Rue (her identifying her with Prim). And when they are eating together it never explains how little food Rue and the people of her district have, they don't get a glimpse of the hardships endured in the other district. That being said-I still cried when she passed away... I was so very very thankful that they didn't take away the flower scene. I was a little disappointed in the fact that district 11 never sent the bread-I thought that was a very important piece in the games.

The Games- I'm glad they didn't focus too much on the horror aspect-there was plenty of death-and they did show some-but they didn't focus only on the deaths. They kept it true to the book and kept most of it from Katniss's point of view. Most of the other outside stuff was outside of the games (Seneca Crane and President Snow-the people in the districts)-and even that was in a limited fashion-which I thought was important.

Haymitch- he was actually MORE likeable in the movie. They show him talking to sponsors trying to get Katniss the cream for her leg. They show him being a bit more caring than he came across in the book... Not saying he didn't care in the books-just saying you didn't really see that until later in the series.

Overall it was very like the book-but a bit more rushed. I think having read the books is an advantage.

Now-I need a nap! I am tired and i have no clue why!
