CPSC, Beco Baby Carrier Announce Recall to Repair "Beco Butterfly" Infant Carriers
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announces the following recall in voluntary cooperation with the firm below. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of product: Beco Baby Carrier, model Butterfly
Units: About 1,900
Manufacturer: Beco Baby Carrier, of Newport Beach, CA
Hazard: Buckles connecting top of carrier's body with shoulder straps can suddenly release tension when shoulder straps held near by or by the buckles, causing carrier's body to shift, posing a fall hazard to the baby.
Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 10 reports of the webbing slipping thru the shoulder buckles causing carrier's body to shift. No injuries have been reported.
Description: The recalled infant carriers were sold under brand name "Beco Baby Carrier Butterfly". Carrier has black label with green logo "b" on left side and picture of butterfly on the right side.
Name of fabrics included in this recall: Mia, Pony Express, Carnival, Addison, Ethan, Sophia, Cameron, Ava, Joshua
Sold at: Specialty retail stores and internet sites from January 2008 through February 28, 2008 for about $130.
Manufactured in: USA and Dominican Republic
Remedy: Consumers should stop using the carrier immediately and contact Beco Baby Carrier for instructions on returning the carriers for repair. Firm will provide free retrofit of the buckles and reimburse involved postage.
