4 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, 8 hours and twenty-nine minutes. That’s how long it’s been since
Ueda has spoken to Taguchi, or rather since Taguchi spoke back to him.
4 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, 7 hours and twenty nine minutes.
That’s long it’s been since Jin left
the KAT-TUN dressing room, kissing Kazuya on the cheek and telling everyone else to get home safely.
4 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, 6 hours and twenty-nine minutes. That’s how long it’s been since Jin
and Taguchi got into the car accident. After waiting and waiting the doctors finally came out to speak to
the remaining KAT-TUN member, explaining that while Jin was awake but it would take months for his
internal damage to fully heal. Once he went through some serious therapy his life would be able to return
to how it was before the accident. Taguchi on the other hand, had received considerably less damage
than Jin but still was in a coma. The doctors said the impact caused him to hit his head resulting in a
slight concussion, there was no way to know when he or if he would wake up.
-------
Hours would slide, days would go by and Kame still refused to see Ueda. The pain was
unbearable for Ueda, to be shut off from the people he loved most; his life had become bleak and dreary
without Kame and Junno to light it up. And Kame wasn’t any better off, although Jin was finally starting to
heal from the accident he still refused to see anyone other than the doctors. Kame had begged Jin for
forgiveness, sending letters and flowers and gifts to show how sorry he was, but Jin didn’t believe any of
it. Kame wouldn’t leave his house for days at a time, refusing to speak to anyone for any reason. It had
gotten to the point where Nakamaru and Koki felt they had to intervene.
Nakamaru was in charge of making sure Jin and Ueda were ok while Koki agreed to take care of
Kame. Nakamaru decided to start with Ueda, figuring he’d find out what the younger man knew of what
happened and hoping he could cheer him up. His plan was to get the other to come out drinking with him,
but it didn’t seem to be working out too well.
“I am not going anywhere tonight Yuichi” Ueda repeated as he walked towards the hospital
elevator. Ueda had been in the hospital all day sitting with Junno, talking to him, asking him to wake up
soon. He’d stay longer if he could but visiting hours are over and the nurses seem to have sticks up their
asses and won’t let him stay longer. As soon as he exited Junno’s room he found Yuichi waiting for him
much to his displeasure.
“Come on Tatsuya, you need to get out this it’s not healthy what you’re doing.” Maru frowned.
“Being in a coma isn’t healthy either.” Ueda retorted, which only caused the older man’s frown to
deepen.
“A. Being in a coma can be the body’s way of allowing itself to heal without exerting itself and B.
Being in a coma can’t be helped. What you’re doing can.” Ueda realized that Nakamaru wasn’t going to
give up on this, the man may be a coward at times but he was a stubborn coward. Ueda sighed inwardly
weighing his options, either go out with Yuichi or be followed home by Yuichi, Ueda grimaced not wanting
either. By the time they reached the his car he’d made up his mind to go out, and then half way through
the night fake a stomach ache so he could go home.
“Fine, I’ll come with you but I’m not staying out long I have to get up early so I can come back in
the morning for Junno.” Nakamaru smiled with widely as he climbed into the car with Ueda.
“Don’t worry; I’ll take care of you.” Maru laughed.
“Why the hell are you getting in my car?”
“Why the hell are you in my car?”
“How else am I supposed to get to the bar?”
“Your car.”
“But I don’t have my car.” Maru answered innocently, Ueda was considering making his friend
walk to the bar while he went home but decided against it, knowing the man would show up at his door
with a vengeance. Maru smiled inwardly as his friend pulled off in a huff, happy that his plan was working
so far. Maru prepared himself men tally for what was about to come while Ueda drove.
“Stop making that face, you looked constipated.”
“Hey!” Maybe Ueda wasn’t in as bad of shape as Maru had originally thought.
------------------
One hour and four beers later Ueda was drunk enough to talk about anything, Maru felt slightly
guilty for getting his friend drunk but then he thought of Ueda saying he looked constipated and the guilt
went away. Besides, it wasn’t his fault Ueda was a lightweight, the young man was currently saying the
accident was his entire fault, which Yuichi didn’t understand at all. Ueda wasn’t anywhere near there
when it happened, in truth if anyone was to be blamed, it’d be the person who hit Jin’s car.
“How could it be your fault, you weren’t even there?” Yuichi questioned.
“Becuss, if it weren’t for meee Jin neber would have driben off like tat”
“What are you talking about Tatsuya? Did Kame tell you what happened; he told you why Jin
drove off like that?”
“Of courshh he told me!” the younger man hiccupped.
“And?”
“Amm whaaa?” he hiccupped again. Nakamaru was starting to regret letting him have that fourth
beer.
“And why did drive off like that?”
“He dwobe off becuss Kame confessed to him” Ueda slurred staring into his glass. None of this
was making sense, what could Kame possibly say to Jin to make him react so recklessly? Nakamaru
pressed on for information.
“What did Kame say to him?”
“He told him abowt our rewayshuntip, Jin foun owt me and -hiccup- Kame were togeder” Ueda
started to sob silently. Nakamaru was at a loss for words, he hadn’t known that Kame and Ueda were
seeing each other, if Ueda was seeing Kame that meant he was cheating on Junno. Which means that
the last thing Junno heard before the accident was that his love was cheating on him. Nakamaru looked
at the man sitting across from him, his friend was reduced to a sobbing mess before him and all he could
do is stare confusedly. Suddenly this seemed like a horrible idea, and now he had more questions than
when he first came. But one look at his friend told him that the time for question was over, he put the
money on the table and gathered their things. He guided Ueda to the car setting him into the passenger
seat, and deciding he would stay the night at Ueda’s and take care of him.
This guy’s got a lot of explaining to do in the morning.
------
Ueda woke up the next morning with a killer headache. I swear I will never drink again he thought
as he dragged himself out of bed and into the bathroom. He remembered him and Maru going to a bar,
and Maru trying to cheer him up. I’ll never let him try to cheer me up again he thought as he undressed.
Ueda fiddled with the cold and hot water until the temperature was perfect before getting into the shower.
The feeling of the warm water soothed Ueda as he began to wash himself. The house was completely
quiet besides the sound of running water and snoring.
Ueda froze; Junno was in the hospital so who the hell would be sleeping in his house? Ueda
fought to remember exactly what happened last night. I went out with Maru, and we were talking, and I
got drunk, did Maru bring me home? He wondered as more water cascaded over his body. Why would
Maru have to stay the night with me? Was I that bad last night? Ueda began to remember bits of his
drunken conversation with Nakamaru and how he’d ended up crying in front of his friend. The reality
hit him; Maru knows Kame and I are having an affair! Ueda quickly got out of the shower and ran to his
room; now that Nakamaru knows everything he’s going to hate Ueda and Kame. Ueda began to pace
fretfully; he had already lost Kame, Jin, and Junno now he was going to lose Nakamaru too because of
his own stupid mistakes. The more he thought about it the more Ueda began to panic, he was so worked
up he didn’t even notice a freshly awakened Nakamaru standing at his bedroom door.
“Stop pacing around like a neurotic, that’s my job.” Ueda jumped at the sudden statement, he
wondered how long Nakamaru had been standing there. Ueda opened his mouth to say something but no
words came out; they stayed like this for a few seconds before Nakamaru broke the silence.
“Listen, I know you may not want to talk about what happened last night but there are some
things that I need to know” Nakamaru said taking a step closer. “Last night you said that Jin drove off the
way he did because of your and Kame’s relationship, at first I didn’t get it at first but it didn’t take long to
figure out what you meant.” he paused. Ueda couldn’t remember ever feeling this nervous before in his
life; he took a deep breath waiting for his friend to continue. “If you wanted to be with Kame why didn’t
you just end it with Junno and date him? Why are you keeping this whole thing a secret?” Nakamaru
paused again; Ueda realized he was waiting for an answer.
The younger man honestly couldn’t think of a good way to put it, he wanted to tell his friend the
truth but he was worried about what would happen if he did. Nakamaru could see the struggle plain on
the younger’s face, he knew that he friend would be worried about his own reaction but that didn’t matter
at the moment, he just wanted the truth. “Just start from the beginning and don’t leave anything out. If
we’re going to fix this mess we don’t need any more lies or half-truths” Ueda looked at his friend with wide
eyes.
“You…you’re going to help? You’re n-n-not mad?” the boxer stammered.
“I haven’t decided that yet, now start talking.” Nakamaru sat down expectantly, so Ueda started
telling him everything starting with the first time he and Kame talked after Jin left.
-----------
“Hey Taguchi“
Taguchi….Am I Taguchi?
“It's me Kame.”
Kame? That voice…where have I heard it?
“You seem to be the only person I can talk to these days. I've wanted to see you for a while but
Uepi's always around.”
Uepi? Sounds so familiar
“I don't know what to do Taguchi, I never meant for this all to happen.”
Kame? Uepi?
“How am I suppsed to fix this? Jin won't talk to me and I'm afraid to face Ueda.”
Jin? Why don’t I remember?
“I mean, look at what happened how could I face him knowing I took you away from him!”
But I’m still here! I didn’t leave!
“God, this is all so wrong. Don't worry Taguchi, I'll fix this, I promise.”
I’m here! Please don’t forget me, I’m here!
“I have to go now, but I’ll be back, I promise”
….Kame…
---------
The KAT-TUN members have been walking on thin ice since the accident always very careful
of each other. They had created this false sense of security when they were together, that everything was fine and
mo one wanted to mess up the facade. Still, each member felt a burning on the inside, the need to break free from this fuse but none of
them knew how. Ueda and Kame still weren't talking nor were Kame and Jin and Junno still wasn't waking up
which was killing e eryone on the inside. As much as the members picked on Taguchi, they all still loved
him as one of their own.
This was the type of news that could only be told to Jin, who rarely saw anyone other than
Nakamaru. Nakamaru would always speak with Jin about how things were going with everyone but
himself. Leave it to Oji Nakamaru to worry about everyone but himself. Jin thought although he did like
hearing news about how his friends were doing. Outside of a certain two people Nakamaru knew better
than to mention. Until the day that Jin's curiosity got the better of him.
“How is Ueda doing?” He asked.
Nakamaru stopped what he was doing, tidying Jin's things up and looked at the younger man. He
seemed like the same old regular Jin, but the same old regular Jin never asked about Ueda.
“Do you really want to know?” Nakamaru asked darkly. To be completely honest, Ueda was,
for lack of a better word, horrible. He hadn't been eating or sleeping eight. All he did was cry and worry.
Nakamaru had never seen his friend in such a horrible state. Jin studied Nakamaru's face; he knew that
if Maru was asking him that then Ueda was not doing well at all. But some sadistic part of him wanted to
know that Ueda was suffering as much as he was. He nodded his head to indicate that.
Nakamaru sighed. “Well to be honest, I've never seen anyone look worse in my life. It's like he's a
nothing but a ghost of what he used to be. Junno's in a coma and Kame won't even look at him anymore.”
Nakamaru could see Jin flinch out of the corner of his eye when he says Kame’s name. “I don’t think he
can go on much longer like this, he may have to enter the hospital as well.”
Both Jin and Nakamaru feel the weight if the words as that hang in the air. And even though Jin
though that hearing of Uedas sorrows would make him feel better, it's really only made things worse. For
a minute he considers telling this to Maru only to decide against it shortly after.
Silence.
“I just wish things could go back to the way they were.” Maru sighed again. “I'm going to get a
drink.” he says. “Do you want anything?”Jin doesn't answer he just stares ahead.
I'm not sure what I need any more he thinks. The nurse came in while Maru was at the vending
machine to give him his medicine. This medicine always makes him sleepy. When he sleeps he dreams
of a ghostly Ueda searching for something Jin can't see he also dreams if turtles and Nakamaru. And
when he wakes up Maru is gone and he can't seem to remember anything.
