I didn't write yesterday--I'm sorry. Life was chaotic here in The Office. I DID take the time to send this angry letter to Starbucks, though. Thought I would share:
Having worked in customer service for eight years as a server and then at a staffing agency, I am very forgiving of those in the service industry. I don't always expect exceptional customer service and if I don't receive it, I normally chalk it up to the person being tired or having a bad day. I've been there--we all have.
Like thousands of people around the world, I am addicted to Starbucks. If I don't get my coffee before work in the morning, I am unable to function. I've always loved Starbucks--not only because of its delicious coffee and food, but also because of the service.
That being said, I am outraged by the service at the Starbucks across the street from my work. I understand that this store is busier than most considering its location. I am not usually dissapointed by the SPEED of the baristas, but their attitudes are honestly horrible. Although I am there at least once a day, not one of them has ever acknowledged me with a smile. They are rude to each other, as well, and don't do anything to hide it. It's not exactly pleasant to overhear co-workers screaming at each other while waiting for your morning coffee.
I am considering "changing Starbucks," and walking out of my way so I can deal with a more pleasant staff.
Last week, I ordered a mocha light frappucino. When the person called it out, they screamed it loudly and sarcastically and rolled their eyes. Then they all started laughing and rolling their eyes while I stood right in front of them waiting to pay. (I tip them every day and they NEVER thank me.)
One afternoon when the store was completely dead, I went in to order another mocha light frappucino. After ten minutes, I still hadn't been served. I told the barista and he said, "Oh--sorry. We lost the order." Five minutes after THAT, I still hadn't received my drink. Finally, ANOTHER barista, asked what I ordered and I told her. She started to make it, but then walked away from what she was doing to greet a friend who came to visit her. She talked and laughed with him for a few minutes before finally going back to my drink to finish it. When she finally gave it to me she smirked and said, "Sorry."
I've asked around my office and most people agree about the horrible staff at this Starbucks location. I don't know why they are all so unhappy, but their awful attitudes impact me every day. I am a young, upbeat, smiling ex-waitress who treats them with complete respect, and I am disgusted by their behavior and inadequate service.
Sincerely,
Emily L.
