helllllllllllllllo everyone!

so today is my last day in europe and after a summer like this i can't decide it i'm excited to go home or if i'm sad to be leaving europe! i have done so many things this summer and met some amazing people and gotten to know some amazing people even better and had so many silly crazy never to be repeated moments that the thought of coming home to boring old VA is NUTS! with that said...i can't wait to be home and sleep in a real bed that's mine and take real showers whenever i want! that is definately amoung the things that i have missed the most...well that and all the people back home and in good old ohio!

let's see...now i am in rome and we got here yesterday morning and checked into our hostel which was shady to say the least! however, sarah and i had a productive day in which we saw the forum, panthenon, and colloseum as well as the lizzie mcguire movie fountain (fonta di trevi!) and we also did lots and lots and lots of shopping! which reminds me i still need to buy something for my brother...ooops!

anyway...before rome we were in florence for an evening and a day and finding our hostel was an adventure to say the least! it was 30 min outside of the city by bus and another 1 km up a hill that we had to do walking with 50+lbs backpacks on our back and i was about to get real ragefull but then we arrived at the hostel only to find that it used to be an old convent! how crazy is that! i was sleeping quite possibly where nuns slept years and years ago...so the question i then had to ask myself does that make me super holy catholic girl cause i slept with nuns for two nights and then went to the vatican today and took pictures of nuns? ok maybe not...maybe i just look like a big dirty nun stalker! ick! ok anyway...the hostel was really neat and the guy who worked at the desk could have quite possibly been the italian man of my dreams and i would have been happy to have him take me away on his vespa...luckily for bill that did not happen! florence is a reallllllllly pretty city by the river and they have so amazing gellato! so amazing that i ignored my lacktose intolerantness and ate so much of it i spent much of one afternoon dooking (for those of you who needed to know!) but it was well worth it i swear! sunday before lunch we were walking about the city and we saw brain and nate from the fundacion, both of whom go to OSU, and so we ended up eating lunch with them which was way random and fun as we told them all about our nude cinque terre adventures (i was nakey i swear!). we also rode the bus illegially quite a few times but it wasn't my fault i swear...one time the bus driver even told me to do it although i'm not sure that's really what he said because my italian is not thta great!

anyway...before florence, we visited the leaning tower of pisa where i met the nicest old grandma italian lady that i wanted to stick in my backpack and take home with me! i didn't of course but this lady helped us find the tower and was so cute and helpful and nice that i want to be just like her when i grow up! before pisa was the cinque terre which are 5 fishing towns on the Italian mediterranean coast...and they are AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! i recommend them to anyone and everyone! i went snokling like a fish, hiking and accidently found my way to a nude beach which was quite the experience! i almost fell off a cliff as well but saved my clumsy old self!

before cinque terre was nice, france (actually we stayed in st. laurent which was ten times prettier i swear!) where i saw some amazing beaches, had a candle lit dinner with the wrong patterson (but sarah a pretty good replacement, hehe!), saw too many boobs for my liking and got a bit of a sun burn! it was great!

tuesday was barcelona which is my favorite big city i have visited so far and we went to the picasso museo which was great as well! i really enjoy picasso's works and he does this great painting that makes fun of velasquez' las meninas that we saw in madrid. anyway, we did this harbor cruise that was great as well! the people were so friendly there...much nicer than in madrid! also, we saw the unfinished sagrada familia which was amazing...i can't even describe it! we walked up from the metro and poof there it was! craziness!

sarah met a boy on the train when it was super cold and he covered us up in the middle of the night and i mistook him for God...ooops!

there have been so many adventures and laughs on this trip that i can't even begin to go into that much detail...you'll have to wait for the pictures!

today we saw the vatican muesum as was as st. peters and we went to the top of the dome...there were simply not words to describe what it's like. i don't care if you're that religious or not, or catholic or not, you should all go see it some day, it's indescribeable!

well now my time is almost up so i will hvave to stop boring everyone for now! i go home tomorrow...well sort of home- my brother is picking me up at 11pm when my flight gets in and we're driving 5 hrs to the beach to meet my family where i'll spend the rest of the week! more vacation fun that i cannot wait for! the middle/end of august is when i get to go to lakewood and see rachbearrrrrrry and then i get to go to st. louis to see bill! wahooo! and then it's back to school for RA training (not sure how i feel about that one yet)...the summer has flown away almost!

time to stop boring you all with my reflecting and stuff...

ok i'm really leaving this time! have a super week to all!

love, Megbear
