Update for those of you who I haven't told...
I've been accepted into the program, but we're waiting until sometime next month (hopefully) to find out if I have an assistantship through the Foods and Nutrition program. If I don't, I can still get one in one of my chioces of lab, but it isn't guaranteed for the full 2 (or more) years it will take me to get my degree.
As to the labs, the one with the research that I was more interested in (cancer preventative properties of foods) doesn't seem like it will be the one I end up in. I seemed to have a better connection with the PI in the other lab (obesity and hormones), and she also really seemed to care about me, and be excited by the possibility of working with me. Yay! Plus in lab #2 I would get more research experience with things like PCR, gene expression, and animal models. Since I'm hoping that in the long run I will either get a job in a zoo/wildlife facility doing animal nutrition (in which case neither lab would really help me) or work in research, I think that lab #2 is the best choice. Next Wednesday I'm apparently going to go have lunch with the other grad students and lab techs that work in the lab. (Exciting)
In other news, on Saturday we will be getting a new foster puppy, if she doesn't get adopted. I don't think we have enough news paper...
