After our last foster dog got adopted, Pippin was very lonely, luckily we've been exhausting him with lots of opportunities to play with his doggie friends, and visit the family, and while we are out of town he will get to go the Heather and Matt's and spend lots more time with other dogs.
But I feel like this raises an important point; before we started fostering again, he seemed pretty settled in the routine, and in being the only dog in the house. But now that he has been re-introduced to the doggie joys of companionship, he gets pretty sad whenever his new friends leave. Makes me wish I had a place with a backyard so I could just go ahead and get a permanent second dog. It certainly doesn't make me feel very good to constantly be the grumpy pragmatic one saying, "No, we don't have space for another dog/cat/ferret; I don't care how cute he/she is, or how sad of a story they have."
