If you could rename yourself in real life, what would you choose, and why?
I saw this and couldn't help but respond. I've always rather disliked my name. I mean, sure it is pretty, but in a crowded room at least 2 or 3 other people will have the name Heather as well, and it can be annoying. I've always threatened to change my name to Chiquita, (Due mostly in part to my father's teasing that he wanted to name me that, but my mom wouldn't let him.)
In all honesty, if I was to change my name it would probably be to my forum SN, Luthien. As it is, if I ever have children, and If one of them is a girl I would probably give her that name as her middle name. Which brings up a common theme when discussing names, the ever prying family and their desire to influence the name. As much as I despise the current trend in baby names ("designer names" like Mackynzyie being a prime example) I think that it is usually best to just suck it up and contain your comments about other people's choice of names for their baby. When the kid is 7 or 8 years old and comes over and complains that they hate their name, then you can say something, but until then I think its best to just smile and nod, and try to pronounce whatever outlandish thing they've come up with to the best of your ability.
After all, that's what nicknames are for, right?
