Anterior Uveitis

..is not a sexually transmitted disease, despite what people might think after listening to Monty Python's The Medical Love Song. Well, unless it is caused by syphilis. Which I shouldn't need to point out that I don't have. This provides a better overview.

Anyway, anterior uveitis. I have it in my left eye, frequently, and to varying degrees of severity. This has required many long hours spent at the Eye Department Outpatients (primarily in the waiting room) at Christchurch Hospital. Today I spent 2 hours waiting for my appointment, then more or less told the ophthalmologist exactly what was wrong with my eye, what medication I required and what my treatment schedule should be. I sometimes wonder if I'm perhaps a bit too self-reliant. All he actually did was take a very quick look at the back of my eye and write the prescription.

Uveitis is associated with ankylosing spondylitis which I am also lucky enough to have. Wikipedia makes it sound so severe - chronic, painful, degenerative inflammatory arthritis; systemic rheumatic disease. Them be serious words. I've whinged extensively about being sick in my journal before, but it occurred to me that people have occasionally asked what is actually wrong and I tend to provide inaccurate information or plain silly explanations because some days I Just Can't Be Arsed and wish people would Just Fucking Google It. But that's really me trying to get out of having to think about it too much, though.

Pointless post is pointless. I'm really not sure where I am going with this.
