Dont use gardendirect.co.uk if you value your inbox

I think I've tracked down the reason for the spam. I've never dealt with Garden Direct before so ignored the "Opt-Out" links - I never want to confirm my private email addresses as "live" ones to a spammer - but it seems there was once a connection from them to me.

Back in February 2006, I bought a squirrel-trap from "Queenswood Garden Products". I was perfectly happy with the trap, and they included a catalogue with the order, but didn't try to market to me any more after that. This is the way it should be.

However, it seems that http://www.queenswood.co.uk now redirects to Garden Direct, and the new owners seem to have ignored all prior communication preferences and are spamming past customers at least once a week. This is NOT the way it should be. I might have accepted ONE email notifying me about the change of ownership, and asking if would I like to opt IN to communications from the new organisation, but I will not deal with anyone that starts spamming and tries to put the onus on you to opt OUT.

OK, I'm off to find out if they've contravening their Data Protection Registration and suchlike, but even if I can get them in lots of legal trouble I still want their sales to suffer as well.
