This show is so stupid amazing. Now to be honest, I can't really approve of their methods all of the time, but is it entertaining beyond belief? You betcha. This is your gateway drug episode:
Ugh. I can't comment on the medieval eps, but any of the ones with guns are awful. The GB vs Spets one infuriated me I couldn't even finish it, and mafia vs yakuza pretty much the same. Don't even get me started on the "dramatic reenactments". The Mythbusters could run this show 100x better, they actually attempt to be scientific about things. Example: The shotgun comparison. An actual good comparison would have said ok, they both use the same caliber so damage is identical. Lets look at feed mechanisms. The Saiga has the advantage of extremely quick reloads. On the other hand the pump lets you load as you go, and also gives you better control of ammo type, since you can easily sub slug for shot. The Saiga has the advantage of instant familiarity for users of other AK-platform weapons, while the Mossberg requires a whole different manual of arms. (They also used a civilian, hunting version of the Saiga, real spets would have one with a pistol grip, shorter barrel and probs an optic.) Anyway other than that there would also be a discussion about the different roles each one would be expected to play, and the fact that both sides have other shotgun options (M26, RMB). Instead, what do we get: OMG HE PUT HOLES IN PIG. LOL RUSSIAN DID A ROLL. OMG SHOT-GUNZZ.
The medieval eps? Very silly. Like you could pit a pirate against a knight. The premiss of making either fight out of his natural element is ridiculous. In the case of the pirate, for example, without the limitations of a small, contained battlefield, he would obviously pick something other than a short cutlass against an opponent like a knight. And a pirate's worth would be calculated by his seamanship and the accuracy of his cannonfire, the weatherliness of his ship etc, etc. For fighters like the vikings, ninjas, or pirates, the element of surprise was key to their success. Without it, why the hell would they fight? GRUMBLE MUTTER BITCH.
Anyway,
I was watching the Spetsnaz vs. GB one and actually thought: "I wonder what Duncan thinks about this". I was gonna call, but my American phone is deader than the ER doctor on this show's credibility as a serious physician. It's rather like a cross between Fox News graphics and History Channel re-enactments (WRONGWRONGWRONG). I am under no illusions as to its stupidity.
Still, there's no denying that the guests they bring in are proficient with their weapons - that's why I watch it.
SWORD! HE USEDED A SWORD! SWASH-SWASH-BUCKLE-BUCKLE! WHAT IS A "TACTICS"?
