The Obligatory Engagement Post

Okay, so by now you're all probably aware that Jared and Sandy are engaged.  There have been several, several posts about this across fandom, and rather than replying to everybody else's journal, I've decided to just post my own thoughts on my own journal and get it over with.

First off, I am happy for them.  Truly.  This will in no way impact my ( Read more... )

*laughs* Oh, sweetie, my general response to "We're getting married." is "Oh, right, okay then." I've organised three of the bloody things and bridesmaided four and I still hate them.

Yeah, I've seen that before. To which my response is to roll my eyes and move on. I mean, come on - I have one on the go and one about to be started where the boys are hookers. Be serious kids, it's not real! Actually, reading rps slash always reminds me of the film 'Love, Honour and Obey' where pretty much every character is named after the actor who plays him. I always see the boys as pretty much playing the roles we have cast them in and the characters just happen to share their names...

Oh god, I'm with you. I could get married but sweet Jesus I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a spoon. My brother is under strict instruction that he is the one who has to get hitched and spew out the kids (his response to that suggestion is actually unrepeatable - we sort of share opinions on this one) because, frankly, I have no desire to spend £10,000+ on a dress I don't want, a ceremony I don't care about and to host a party where I either don't know or don't want to know half the people there. But then, I am also a commitment-phobe... Added to which, the phrase 'it'll be your turn next' makes me want to either hit things or drain the bar dry!

Awww, hon, you could always come over here and get yourself a 'civil partnership' (because we can't call it marriage, oh no, that would be offensive *eyeroll again*)

Yeah, you know, even if I could get married, I don't know that I would. We've been together for nine years (later this month is actually our anniversary), so I think that we're pretty damn committed. The commitment phobia sort of faded off about year five, honestly, 'cause he's just...the right guy. I just don't know if I need a ceremony to prove it to the world.

Okay, that's enough there before I get any more sappy. Ug.

*twitches at the whole concept of relationships that last years. Or, indeed, months*

*Goes to get coffee and nictoine to still the twitch*

Longest relationship to date? Three and a half months. Go figure.

One of my friends, just before his wedding, told me he wanted said wedding because "there are only two occasions in your life that you get all of your friends together for something. You're only breathing for one of them." His marriage ended in divorce...

I still think too many people rush into marriage, but I may not be the best judge on that *looking back at the less-than-four-months thing*
