The Fountain

Just finished watching 'The Fountain' with Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weiss. It looked cool which is why I rented it but I'm not really sure what to think of the movie. It leaves a lot for a person to be introspective about. The switching around from Inquisition Spain to modern day to 'Shibalba' confused me until the end of the movie. I'm still not terribly sure what the point of the story was. Or how he suddenly went from being obsessed with finding a way to outlast death to being mentally healthy and ok with her death. Weird. Well at the very least the movie could certainly say that everything in it was pretty. The CGI, the costumes, etc. were all a feast for the eyes.

She was so accepting of her death tho. I don't think I could be so happy about dying, whether it had been happening for a long time or not. It seems to me that always happens to the artistic types. You know where they have some great works like the girl in this movie she was writing a book, or Keats, or like Van Gogh (ok he's kind of a stretch) but they always die young and you wonder what even better works they could've followed up their 'great works' with if they hadn't died. I know people say that if they had lived eventually we would've been disappointed in their later works. I don't know if I believe that. Maybe the candle burns faster at both ends if you're incredibly creative!
