You know, I don't think everything in the world necessarily HAS to go behind an LJ cut. So what if the post is a little bit long? Is it going to hurt you to scroll by it if you don't want to read it?
I think fic belongs behind a cut, no exceptions. I don't know why I think this, but I do. I think images that are really big belong behind a cut because otherwise you just fuck up other people's f-list and it looks wonky. I think anything with penis, tits, or vagina belongs behind a cut, no exceptions. Sometimes I look at my journal when I'm in the library, okay?
I've seen people who have accidentally fucked up the cut on something and been yelled at about it and it's because they hit the wrong key or something usually. Or sometimes there's an LJ newB who just doesn't know what they're doing. Okay, so help them out. Not a big deal, man.
But look, if you do a post where you've got a lot of shit to say about something, I don't see what the big fucking deal is where instantly someone comes along to tell you it belongs behind a cut. Usually without having anything to say in regard to whatever it was you were posting about. THAT SHIT IS RUDE. It's like 10x more rude when it happens to a person posting on their own journal. This is just my humble opinion here, but I think if it's my journal, I can post whatever the hell I want, however the hell I want to and if you don't like it, you can leave.
But even on communities, I don't see how this is something that you MUST DO or die or something as long as the post is on topic. I mean, if it's a big rambly post about their thoughts on slash and how they just discovered Star Trek fan fiction and this is what they think about it, fine I can see where maybe you wouldn't be interested, but if that's what the community is FOR then why does it absolutely have to go behind a cut?
Fact #1: Scrolling is easy.
Fact #2: As human beings, yes we are just that lazy.
Fact #3: Sometimes people just need to be assholes.
Honestly, though, why can't people just let shit that does not matter fucking slide? Over the years, that has become the number one quality I look for in a person and it is rare. Just let it go.
