This is an entry that is long over due.
People think they know me but sorry, you really don't. I'll start with most recent events.
I like marijuana. I've liked marijuana for about four years now and I just randomly decided to stop enjoying it until recently. Yes, Joe Shaffer smoked weed. The past couple weeks I've done it a couple times, does that make me a hypocrite? No. & I'll explain how.
When I'm against something, I'm against it for myself, no one else. Personally, I don't give a shit what you do, as long as it doesn't affect me. I'm tried of people accusing me of "freaking out" on them about what they've done because I've done no such thing.
I never gave anyone shit for anything they did. What people usually do is lash out at me because they have trouble answering a question. So, they get frustrated and then take it out on the first person they see or talk to, which is most likely the person who asked the question.
What I don't like is when one does something without a purpose, I'm an honest believer in everything having a purpose and an answer for "why?".
Example: A friend of mine not too long ago just decided they were going to start drinking. Shocked me because they always seemed to be happy without it and just wasn't something that appealed to them. So I asked them why and they couldn't answer. Got replies like "because I want to..." or "I don't know." Then comes the lash out. Doing something just because some one else is doing it is lame. Not saying that's why they did it but just in general.
I'm a strong person, I do what I want and I can tell you why I do it and wont let anyone "pressure" me into anything because to me, peer pressure doesn't exist.
The main thing I hate is when a person starts doing something, they talk to you about it, you say your views on the situation and the person listens but doesn't apply. Goes and gets fucked up, does something retarded and then blames whatever they were on, never themselves and when you're there saying "I told you so" they're pissed at you and all they do is bitch and complain about how shitty things are because of what substance they were under did, not them. So what do I say to being called a hypocrite? Fuck you. Yep, because that's not what I am. I never gave anyone shit for what they do. I'd say "well, if things that you regret keep happening and all you're going to do is complain about it and blame everything but yourself, then maybe you shouldn't be drinking or doing whatever drug it is." Notice there I wasn't telling you what to do or what not to do, I made a suggestion. Also, nowhere in there did I talk about how stupid, bad, etc. whatever it was you were under the influence of was. So, how am I a hypocrite.
I look at a person at how they act towards me or others, actions do speak louder than words but I listen to their words and I apply that to my decision making in whether I like the person or not. I don't judge them just because they drink or do drugs. If I met a crack head who smoked crack on their own time but was a really nice person and never gave me a reason to not like them then I would have no problem being their friend. If you're going to get messed up, be an asshole or bitch and act differently towards people at different times then no, I'm not going to respect you. I've made that very obvious, I'm easy to get along with, I'm understanding and open minded. I may argue forever because I will fight for what I believe in and usually fights start with some one telling me I'm wrong about something. If I think I'm right, which most of the time I am and thats being honest and not being a smart ass, then I'll say what I believe and speak my mind and then I'll listen to what the other person has to say, or vice versa. I rarely say "you're wrong" it's just my opinion.
No ones ever heard me say "I hate drugs, drugs are so bad they are stupid. I hate people who do drugs, all they do is get you into trouble." That's not how I feel. Just because you fuck a bunch of guys, get caught by the police, at some point everyone hates or you at least make it out to seem that way and all you do is cry and blame everybody because you're not able to handle what you take along with the consequences and all I did was say "I told you so" does not make me a hypocrite. A hypocrite preaches to how terrible something is and does all they can to stop everyone else from being a part of it and then secretly does what they tell others not to do. I never told anyone not to smoke weed, I can get high and not fuck up like everyone else and then blame weed. I don't care how high you are, you're in control. I'm not doing anything secretly, many people have been around me and have said "I can't believe you broke edge." Broke it a long time ago, from 4 years ago to now, I'm still the same person. I haven't changed and then pointed fingers at others because of it. I'm still Joe and I still have the same beliefs and morals.
One thing that I don't like, that I have openly said I do not like and say that I will not do is drink alcohol. (which most people tend to forget is a drug also) I've drank before, I do not like the taste and I don't like the way it makes me feel. I'm against it for myself, no one else. To drink just to look cool around others is something I'm against because all you look like is some ones puppet bitch who can't make decisions for them self. When I drank, I did it because I was around older kids and wanted to look cool and fit in. Wasn't worth and since then (3 years ago) I haven't gone back. Straight Edge is just a personal decision, not a fucking religion. I'm around people who are drunk or drinking all the time, I threw a new years party and had over 250 beers in my fridge and I despise drinking, once again, FOR MYSELF, NO ONE ELSE! I took keys, watched over and made sure people were safe and had a good time. I am not a hypocrite. Don't blame your weaknesses on me because if anyone says I gave them shit, that's just them feeling threatened and feeling as if they are being attacked when the frustration kicks in when they realize they can't answer a question regarding to why they're deciding to do something. Ask me anything, I have an answer for everything.
Another reason why I was called a hypocrite. I made it plain and clear to anyone I know that I, Joe Shaffer, never have, do not and will not date a girl who drinks alcohol, smokes cigarettes or does drugs because my personal choice and my type of girl does not do those things. Now, some will say "well, you smoke weed so you're a hypocrite!" This was the best example I could come up with. I like to have sex with females. I would never date a female who also liked to have sex with females. My type of girl does not do that. Does that make me a hypocrite because I won't date a girl who likes the same thing as me, like sex with females or smoking weed? I don't see how it does. Just because I like to do something, doesn't mean I have to date some one who does the same thing. Whether I plan on smoking weed or not, I'm not going to change my type, no matter what. If they do those things, I wont be with them. It's my personal choice to date or not to date a type of girl and it's their choice to date or not to date me and the type of guy I am.
I've gotten my friends the "hook up" so to speak on a few occasions, just at the time I decided not to join. It was my personal choice not to do that but that doesn't mean I don't like what they were doing and I gave them all shit about it and freaked out on them about it. No, all I ever did was tell some people to shut the fuck and stop crying if they're just going to bitch about things they do when they're under the influence and then look really stupid when they go back and do it again. That does not make me a hypocrite, that just makes you an idiot. I never said I wouldn't get high ever again, no one can quote me of that. I have said on many occasions that I will never drink again and that I hate it and I mean that. I will go the rest of my life without alcohol and until the day I go against what I just said, I am not a hypocrite.
As for those who are "disappointed, ashamed of me, etc." that's not fair. It's my life and I make my decisions and I deal with whatever comes in my path, not you. It doesn't make me any less of who I am until I start affecting your life in a negative way but until that happens, I'm still the same person and I will act that way.
That's what I think about that. I have a few more things to say about other things but I will save that for another time. This was not me being an asshole, I'm just defending myself. Those who I've talked about without mentioning names, don't judge this too quickly and get angry, really take in what I've said and take time to think about it before you say anything else. I hope to hear replies and I'm open to any questions and I'll be very understanding about comments that will be made, do not be afraid to leave a comment that isn't anonymous or even give me a call to talk. I love you all. This is just the beginning of topics that I will begin to talk about over the next few days that we all can relate to. Thank you.
