I made it into the Harvard Square Lush store yesterday afternoon and walked out with the Big Shampoo, Caca Marron Mama henna bar, and Dream Cream. I also got the Youki-Hi and Ne Worry Pas bath bomb, and, for spending as much as I did, I received a gift of their Fresh Face Mask (catastrophe cosmetic- the blueberry version).
I tried out the henna last night.
The SA who helped me out suggested the Marron for my Asian hair, that I use only half a bar as my hair is barely shoulder length, and that I leave it in for two hours. I did use half a bar, but I could only stand the pungent espresso aroma for about an hour and a half before having to run to the bathroom to rinse it out. After a thorough rinse and blowdry, the aroma smelled more like coffee, and lingered until early this afternoon.
The resulting color is so subtle that I doubt it would come up in a photo, but up close I appear to have natural chestnut undertones. It's a nice effect, but I was hoping for a more reddish hue- in a few days I might use the other half, leave it in longer, and see if that makes a difference. The highlights I had previously turned a nutty sort of brown over time, but after the henna, they were a gorgeous, shiny auburn. There was a surprising side effect in addition to the color; the henna made my hair ridiculously silky and shiny. Seeing as it was already relatively soft and glossy, I was amazed at the change, and, stupid and cliched as it sounds, couldn't stop stroking my hair for about an hour afterwards or insisting that my boyfriend feel it as well.
In short, my experience with the Caca has left me extremely curious about the Reincarnation Solid Shampoo and the effect it'll have on my hair in comparison to the henna.
Tonight, I'm experimenting with the blueberry face mask.
It looks and feels gross (I've never used a face mask before), but it smells so good that I'm tempted to take a fingerful of it and stuff it in my mouth. So far, it's dried really quickly upon contact with the skin, but aside from that and the fragrance, I don't have any cohesive thoughts on it yet.
All in all, I'm really glad I decided to visit the store; the sales-girls were very friendly and helpful, and not at all aggressive as I've experienced in some other non-Lush stores. It was DEFINITELY worth the time, and I am, unfortunately for my wallet, officially hooked on Lush! Next week I'll be going back for the Show us Your Green event and hopefully, really hopefully, catching the Boston LJ meet up.
Upon removing the face mask, I've discovered that my chin and nose are no longer red and splotchy for the first time in my life. I'd recommend this for sensitive skin or treating small areas of redness and irritation at least after this use, but I have also noticed that it did dry out my skin- nothing a little moisturizer couldn't take care of, fortunately.
Also, am I missing something, or do we not have tags for the Big Shampoo and Catastrophe Cosmetic face mask?
