there could have been a forest here

i work at a county park. technically i work at two county parks. the main one is douglas walker park, and the secondary one is brewer park, which is about a mile and a half down the road. douglas walker is the one that we show up to in the morning, and all of our equipment is there. one of the first things we usually do in the morning is pick up the grounds. this consists of using a grabber to pick up pieces of trash lying on the ground. as you might expect, cigarette butts are by far the most commonly pick up item. however, the second most common might not be as obvious. it's the clear straw wrappers from juice boxes. note that we hardly ever have to pick up the juice boxes (or juice pouches) themselves. these are almost always thrown away. the straw wrappers from these juice boxes are rarely thrown away. just thought you might want to know.

another thing i did today was weed the flower and plant area around the shelterhouse. most of what i pulled up were maple seedlings. just around that one building i pulled up several hundred maple seedlings. sometimes when i'm doing that i wonder what would happen if those survived, and for some reason were never cut down or transplanted somewhere else. i think of how the building would be surrounded by trees, and encased in a mass of branches and leaves.

i think i have too much time to think at work.
