Pandora and Sound Relief

Mar 02, 2009 18:41

The other night I decided to click on Pandora.com for the first time in, oh, maybe two years. Amazingly, my home computer was still logged in, and my Midnight Oil station started right up.

So today I thought I'd check Hotmail before leaving for home. Hotmail is the account on which I currently have my "Powderworks" subscription. Powderworks is an international e-mail list for fans of Midnight Oil; I've been subscribed to it, in all its various incarnations, since 1996 (though I've been reading it much less over the last few years).

Turns out that the Powderworks list has EXPLODED over the last few days, as the Oils announced that they are RE-FORMING (well, briefly) for the Sound Relief benefit concert in Melbourne a couple of weekends from now -- AND they're gonna have a couple of "practice" gigs in Canberra a few days earlier.

I wish I could go!!! I just soooooo wanna buy a plane ticket and have an OILY weekend!!!

(Mind you, we're talking about Melbourne, VICTORIA, not Melbourne, Florida.)

Never mind that the lead singer is an almost 55-year-old member of Parliament ... I have been a fan since October 1988 in Boston, but I keep hearing that the energy at their home-turf shows is PRICELESS....

(And the prices on Expedia.com for the 25-hour flight range from $999 to $1626 in U.S. dollars ... and the concert will be out on DVD someday....)

AAUGH!!!!
