Tibetan monks!

There is a Tibetan Buddhist retreat about a half an hour from Smith, so sometimes I'll see monks wandering around the college, usually on the way to the library. I always become really happy when I see them. For one thing, it means spring has truly sprung!...I never see them in winter. Also, they always look very cheerful. Once, I walked into the library and saw a student explaining how to use the search engine on one of the computers, with the monk standing next to her looking baffled. I'm not trying to be condescending at all when I say this made me giggle in glee.
The Dalai Lama is always described as child-like. I wonder if this is the key to happiness? Screw maturity, right? Discover your inner child.
But then, does being naive make you happy? It is probably true that the less you know, the more relaxed you'll be. But the Dalai Lama knows loads, and he still manages to be happy! So I guess the key is being able to have knowledge, but not letting the confusion and frustration get you down, and still seeing the world with fresh eyes?
...I'm confused now. I'll shut up.
