Yamada sighs. He can’t believe he has to face this hurdle again. He is kind a relieved that he has his day off today. It is hard for him to breathe through the embarrassment and guilt in front of the members.
The cell phone suddenly beeps.
A text from Takaki.
Open the door. I’m outside.
Yamada frowns. He quickly gets up from his bed and rush to open the front door.
“Hello,” Takaki greets with his usual cool demeanour. “Lunch?”
“Yuya! What are you doing here?”
Takaki smirks and nonchalantly enters the younger boy’s apartment. “Just drop by to see how you’re doing,” he puts the lunchbox he bought on the dining table and immediately heads out again. “Well then, see you!”
“You’re leaving? Already?”
“Yup! Have a good day!”
“Wait Yuya!”
“Yes?”
“Are you… checking on me?”
“Maybe,” Takaki continues to put on his shoes.
“Did you know?”
“That you’re set for another solo single? Yeah…”
“But how?”
“Well, I overheard your conversation with your manager in the car yesterday.”
“I thought you were sleeping! Oh gosh!” Yamada cups his face. “You must be mad at me…”
Takaki smiles. “Sometimes I feel you don’t know your members at all Yama-chan.”
“What do you mean?”
Takaki put his right hand on Yamada’s left shoulder, giving it a gentle tap. “Whatever you do, JUMP will always be by your side. I can promise you that much.”
“It’s scary… I'm scared of what our fans might think. And... and I’m not good when I’m filming alone. I’m not like Dai-chan.”
“Because you’re not Dai-chan. You are Yamada Ryosuke of Hey Say JUMP. Being you is enough- don’t forget that.”
Yamada eyes are getting teary. He is touched that Takaki would drop by in the midst of his busy schedule just to make sure that he is all right. They may not be that close among members, but Yamada truly appreciate this thoughtful gesture and reassuring words from the man.
“Thank you Yuya.”
--Act of service--
“Thank you for driving me today,” Chinen cheerfully says to the older boy. “I know I can count on Yuyan.”
“No problem,” says Takaki as he takes out the last box from the car’s trunk. “Yama-chan called me yesterday too, saying he couldn’t make it.”
“Yeah, the man who would prefer to stream with his favourite gamer than going out with his boyfriend.”
“You can’t blame him though. You did the same when Ohno-kun asked you out last year.”
“But that was Ohno-kun! How can I say no?!”
“Yeah… thanks to that I had to go shopping with him. But it’s okay, he bought me a new jacket,” Takaki grins.
“Wow, you go out with members a lot!” Chinen is rather impressed. “Yuyan is more sociable now!”
“Just so you know, they usually invite me if no one else want to go.”
“That’s not true. It’s not that you’re the last resort. It’s because we know you are super kind and won’t refuse our request.
“Super kind?” Takaki chuckles. “That’s exaggeration!”
“It’s not! Yuyan is very kind. Sometimes we feel like we’re asking too much help from you.”
Takaki put the box at Chinen’s doorstep. “You know how much I treasure friendship right?”
Chinen nods. “We know you’d die for them.”
“Not just them, but us. Friends, members, family- I will be very happy if can be of any assist to any of you.”
Chinen smiles. The man in front of him hasn’t change a bit since they first met. Chinen would never forget how Takaki willingly ‘babysitting’ him on set of their first single. Despite Takaki’s ‘wild’ appearance, he just went along with Chinen’s whine and childish play at that time, not getting angry even once.
Like a real brother.
“Speaking of which, I haven’t scrubbed my bathroom this week. Do you want to help me with that?”
Takaki laughs. “Scrubbing bathroom is not in the agreement I made with Yamada. So, the answer is ‘no’,” he pats Chinen on the head. “You can ask Yamada to do it, you know, punishment for breaking his promise.”
“That is actually a good idea.”
--Quality time--
“THIS IS SO EXCITING!” Daiki yells from the back of the car. The man glows with excitement, like a child who just received his favourite candy.
Yabu laugh. “From now on my birthday present for Dai-chan’s will be sauna voucher!”
“Hey, that’s cheating!” Hikaru jokingly disses. “At least we should take turn in gifting him the voucher.”
“Or… all of you can give me sauna voucher,” Daiki claps his hands like a kid. “I can use them throughout the year!!”
Daiki’s cute respond causes Takaki, Yabu and Hikaru to burst in laughter.
“This feels like old times,” says Takaki.
“Almost 3 years,” Hikaru suddenly replies. “Since BEST last road trip.”
“3 years huh? Time sure flies…”
“I wish Inoo-chan is here too…” Daiki put
“Ah… gomen ne Dai-chan…” Takaki apologize on Inoo's behalf. “Kei really wants to come, but you know how packed his schedule is…”
Daiki smiles. “So much has changed. I don’t get to hear him complaint about having too many free times anymore. In fact, he is the busiest among us now!”
“Your schedule is quite packed too!” Hikaru points it out.
“We all are,” Yabu cuts in as he makes the right turn. “The only reason we can get this overlapping day off is because Takaki bribes our manager!”
Takaki laughs. “It’s not bribing… I was just gently requesting and showing my sincerity by bringing them gifts.”
“Too bad it doesn’t work with Inoo-chan’s manager.”
Hikaru’s retort brings the rest of the members to laugh again.
Daiki is content. As more members gaining attention and receiving solo jobs, they had little time to catch up with their private life or going on trips like this one. Thus, he is very grateful to Takaki for his effort at ‘bribing’ their manager. Truthfully, the time they spend in the car taking about silly topics and laugh at Hikaru’s joke is what Daiki look forward the most.
This is the best birthday gift ever.
--Gifts-
Keito and Yuto arrive at the location Takaki sent them. The two stare at each other with puzzling looks.
“Are you sure this is the place?”
“According to GPS, yes…” Yuto shows his phone to his boyfriend.
“But this place is a bit… classy. I don’t think I’m appropriately dressed,” says Keito as he fixed his leather jacket.
“Maybe we can just drop by and ask. If they don’t allow us to enter, erm... well, we’ll just go somewhere else to dine.”
Keito nods, agreeing with the taller boy. He drives the car to the luxurious hotel’s entrance.
“Welcome Okamoto-san, Nakajima-san,” a hotel staff greeted them warmly. “We’ve been expecting you,” he picks the key and give them to the valet parking attendant. "Please come with me."
Yuto and Keito follow the staff who brings them straight to a fancy restaurant at the fifth floor of the hotel.
“Welcome,” they staff open the door to a private dining cubicle.
The two gentlemen freeze; mesmerized with what they see.
The room is slightly dimmed, with lavender scented candles surrounding the room as the source of light. A medium sized dining table with white tablecloth stands in the middle of the room, decorated with dozens of red roses’ petals on the top. There is a gold slim classic candle stand at the centre of the dining table. The soft acoustic melody at the background brings out the romantic atmosphere of the place.
Yuto- who is still amazed with the whole setting- approaches the dining table, finding a small card left next to the candle stand with his name on it. He picks it up.
Dear Yuto,
I know you’ve been busy with your drama and Keito is flying back to NY soon. I reserved this place so that both of you can have a nice memorable dinner together. Consider this a gift for you and Keito’s anniversary.

“That’s really sweet of him,” Keito, who is now standing next to Yuto, says in a soft voice.
“He’s really thoughtful,” Yuto put the card in his pocket. “I’m sorry I couldn’t spend a lot of time with you the past month. I am such a lousy boyfriend...”
Keito put his right hand on Yuto’s shoulder. “It’s okay. The next time you come to NY I’ll make sure my schedule is busy too.”
Yuto laughs. “What is this? A threat?”
“Maybe,” Keito playfully raises his right eyebrow. He holds Yuto’s hands, brings them close to his chest and lovingly kisses them.
“Happy anniversary Yuto.”
--Physical touch--
The alarm clock rings. Inoo, still with his eyes half close, reaches for his cell phone on the bedside table. Waking up at 3 am on Thursday morning has become a habit to him. Inoo rubs his eyes. He has approximately one hour to get ready before his manager come to pick him up. Slowly and quietly, he brings himself to sit, preparing to go to the bathroom.
“Not yet…” Takaki put his right hand around Inoo’s tiny waist and pulls the boy towards him again. “You can’t leave me,” he is now tightly hugging Inoo from behind, rubbing their head together like a puppy.
“It’s time…”
“No… you can’t go,” Takaki says as he tightens his hug. "I can't sleep without you..."
Inoo chuckles. Still in his boyfriend’s embrace, Inoo turns to face his lover. “Manager-san will get angry at me again if I’m late.”
“Can’t you call in sick?”
“If I do that our fans will make chaos on SNS, asking where I am.”
“Then tell the producer the truth- your boyfriend desperately needs you to pamper him because he is crazily in love with you.”
“That will cause a different kind of chaos within fans!” Inoo laughs at Takaki’s cheesy words. “And Takizawa-kun will kill us.”
Takaki smiles. He brings Inoo’s head towards him and plant a kiss on the boy’s sweet plump lips.
“I love you,” Takaki whispers as he caresses Inoo’s cheek with his fingers. “I love you so much Kei.”
Inoo buries himself on Takaki’s broad chest. The warmth and the scent from his beloved lover make all his fatigue and stress disappear at instant.
“I love you too Yuya.”
