“Kei,”

Inoo looks up upon hearing his name being called.

But there is nobody there. He is alone in the hospital waiting room.

The clock is showing 3pm, three days after the accident took place. The other JUMP members are still warded for various reasons.

Yamada and Daiki broke a few ribs.

Keito, Yabu and Chinen had a few laceration wounds.

Yuto broke his left arm.

While Hikaru is intubated in ICU. A thick glass pierce through his abdomen that night, lacerating his liver. The boy passed out on their way to hospital. He required emergency surgery upon arrival, and a huge portion of the liver has to be removed as it was beyond repair.

Inoo is the only person coming out from the tragedy without a single scratch. Thanks to Takaki.

“Kei”

Again, the voice calls him. This is not the first time such happening took place. Since the accident, Inoo keep hearing this somewhat familiar voice mentioning his name, most prominently when he is alone.

Am I going insane?

“Inoo-kun, are you all right?”

Inoo turns around, looking at Keito who is walking in his direction. Several bandages are covering Keito’s arms, covering the stitches that the boy had.

“Em,” Inoo tries to keep his composure. Smiling has never been this difficult before.

Keito sits next to the older boy, handing him a pack of bento and a bottle of mineral water. “You haven’t had your lunch, right?”

“Thank you Keito,” Inoo takes the pack and places it on the empty chair next to him. “How’s Hika?”

“Not much different. He can open his eyes now but still not able to breath by his own.”

“But at least he is responsive.”

Keito leans against the seat. “Not really… Hikaru-kun was pretty confuse and restless. Yabu-kun finally agrees to allow the nurses to restrain him.”

“Souka….” Inoo gives a gentle sigh. He looks at Keito, who is gazing blanking at the floor- sinking into his deep thoughts.

Since the accident, Keito took over Takaki’s role as his ‘guardian’. The boy never fails to remind him about his medicine. He also makes sure that Inoo gets enough sleep and eat decently.

“Any news about the compatibility test?” Inoo asks.

Keito shook his head. “They said it take at least a day.”

“I really hope it goes well. Personally, I want your mother to have Yuya’s kidney.”

Keito doesn’t know how to respond to Inoo’s remarks. Of course, Keito will be the happiest person on earth if the test come back in favour of his mother. But at the same time Keito is also sad to lose such a good friend like Takaki.

And he can’t even imagine how Inoo might be feeling right now.

Keito was there when Takaki’s parents signed the consent form for organ harvesting. Inoo was present too. Rather than tearing up, the boy was unexpectedly composed throughout the session. When they moved Takaki to a special observation area, Inoo was also calm. He became the pillar for Takaki’s parents, consoling them with hugs and reassuring words.

But Keito knows how devastated the boy is. Inoo’s red eyes are evident just how much he must be crying when he is alone. He needs sleeping tablets to rest. Since Takaki’s body is now located in isolation room, Inoo can only sees his boyfriend for a short while every hour. Inoo spent his remaining time here in this waiting room.

“You know Keito, Yuya’s hand is still warm,” Inoo breaks the awkward silence. “Like he is actually in deep sleep. He looks so peaceful.”

“Inoo-kun…”

“Sometimes I hope that he will wake up and walk through that door,” Inoo stares at the waiting room’s entrance. “He will say all his silly jokes and Ryu will tease him. They’ll end up quarrelling and run around the room.”

Keito could see Inoo’s eyes becoming wet.

“I wish this is just a dream. Like movies, all of these happen in my comatose mind. That I am the one dying instead of him.”

Keito moves closer to the older boy and brings the boy’s head to rest on his right shoulder. Inoo didn’t resist. He allows Keito to stroke his hair as he weeps.

“I admire him Inoo-kun,” Keito speaks softly. “He died protecting the person he loves. He fought for you till his last breath. And now, he will save many others by donating his organs. Takaki-kun may seem childish at times, but his determination is beyond compare. He is the real hero.”

Keito’s words make Inoo sobs even more.

“I don’t need a dead hero. I just want Yuya to hug me again,” cries Inoo.

Keito tightens his hug. He knows no words can calm the grieving boy. He allows Inoo to weep as much as he wants. Keito made a promise to himself- regardless of the compatibility test result, he pledges to take care of Inoo from now onwards. He will do everything he can to ensure Inoo’s health does not deteriorates.

He can’t afford to lose another brother.

---------------

Yabu stares at the paper in front of him. He can hardly digest Takaki’s death. Yet now there they are- the doctors- wanting him to make immediate decision.

Guilt is haunting Yabu’s mind. Takaki was the one he often ridiculed, especially when they fought about Inoo’s well-being. All this while Yabu saw the man as a big baby. He never took Takaki’s words seriously. When in reality, that childish Takaki was so committed to the group in his own way.

Even in death, Takaki surprises everyone with his kindness.

Yabu just recently know that Takaki registered as an organ donor a few days after he heard about Keito’s mother’s illness.

If only Yabu knew that Takaki’s time was ticking this fast. He really wished he had treated Takaki better.

“Yabu-kun,”

Yabu raises his gaze. Yuto is standing in the hallway, looking at him with such sorrowful eyes. His left arm is put on cast. The tall boy slowly limps towards him.

“Yabu-kun… Yuyan… Yuyan is dead…” Yuto begins to cry.

Yabu quickly get on his feet and hug the crying Yuto, trying to calm him down. He carefully guides Yuto to sit on the nearest bench.

“I thought you were joking,” says Yuto. “But then Chii brought me to see him in the isolation ward. He doesn’t look dead to me Yabu-kun! Ne Yabu kun, this all just a prank right?”

“Yuto… I’m afraid-”

“Takaki-kun, you got us! Now just come out! Stop this prank!!” Yuto suddenly screams. His eyes wander around the corridor, wishing some cameraman will enter to record his reaction.

Yabu holds Yuto’s right hand tightly.

“There’s no prank Yuto. It’s true, Yuya is gone.”

Yuto’s body becomes weak. His tears are now beyond control. The pain of losing a precious member is now filling his poor heart.

Why fate is being cruel to them?

“Yuti!!” Chinen runs towards the two. “Here you are! I was worried about you! I told you to stay till I return!”

Yuto didn’t respond to Chinen’s scolding. His right hand is now pulling his own hair hard.

Chinen stops Yuto’s hand from further damaging the boy’s hair. Since the beginning Yuto didn’t believe the news about Takaki’s death. So the moment he saw Takaki lying still in the isolation room with ‘brain death’ written on the file, Yuto become anxious. He ran to each of the member’s ward to make sure the others are well and living.

“Hikaru-kun… will he die too?” Yuto suddenly utters.

“Only time will tell,” Yabu replies.

Although Yabu tries his best to remain calm, Chinen can sense the sadness in his intonation. Clearly, Yabu is suffering too. Now that the other older members are unwell, the responsibility falls on Yabu’s shoulder again.
Not to mention the dilemma the eldest is facing in regards of his corrective plastic surgery.

“Have you made your decision?” asks Chinen.

Yabu shook his head. “I don’t know Chii.”

Chinen kneels. He holds Yabu’s hand with his other hand.

“Yabu-kun… I will support whatever decision you make. And I’m sure Yuyan is the same too.”

Yuto frowns. “What decision?”

“Yuyan registered as organ donor. Yabu-kun may be healed from that scar using Yuyan’s skin graft. They are compatible.”

Yuto couldn’t hide his surprise. “Takaki-kun is already this unfortunate! Why would anyone want to peel his skin?! ARE YOU CRAZY??!!!!”

“Yuti calm down,” Chinen attempts to console the boy.

“No! YOU CALM DOWN!!” Yuto yells. “What will he look like in funeral if you peel his skin?! WHY DO YOU WANT TO TORTURE YUYAN?! This is cruel Yabu-kun! Don’t do it!”

Yabu keep still. He knows explaining things to the emotionally distress Yuto will now serve any purpose. The tall boy is overwhelmed by the whole situation. Yabu shares the same sentiment too.

But even if Yabu refuses, they will still harvest the skin and donate to another needed patient.

Yabu is caught in this dilemma.

Ne Hika… what should I do?

Suddenly the red light in front of Hikaru’s room blinks. A number of doctors and staff is seen rushing in and out the room.

“What’s going on?” Yabu becomes panic. He runs inside the ICU but he is not allowed to enter the busy room.

From the nursing counter Yabu can see doctors performing CPR and defibrillator is being pushed closer to Hikaru’s bed.

“Hika!! Hika!!!” Yabu tries to force his way into his boyfriend’s hospital room. But a male nurse drags him out again.

“Stop making noise and start praying,” the male nurse warns.

“Only miracle can save Yaotome-san now.”
