“Ryosuke! Do you want to join us for dinner today?” Yabu approaches Yamada who just finished changing from his costume. “Yuri, Hika and Yuto are coming too!”
Yamada just give his senpai a soft smile. “Thank you for inviting Yabu-chan. But I want to rest tonight.”
Yabu sits next to the boy. “Is everything all right? You seem so gloomy. I heard from manager-san that you asked for 2 weeks break. Are you going for vacation or something?”
“Maybe,” Yamada takes his cell phone out from the charger. “I am tired,” he stares at his cell phone screensaver. It is Keito’s picture from their dinner 6 months ago, 1 week before Keito left for New York. Keito was wearing a simple white V-neck tee, topped with black leather jacket and his favourite dark blue jeans. In the picture Keito was taking out his sunglass, cutely winked at the camera while sticking out his tongue.
“He is cute, isn’t he?” Yamada asks the group leader.
Yabu leans forward to show his interest in the conversation. “He surely is. Our innocent Keito.”
“I miss him Yabu-chan…”
“Have you tried contacting him?”
Yamada shook his head. “He hates me.”
“We all know Keito very well. He never gets angry, Ryosuke. Left alone to his boyfriend,” Yabu tries to reassure Yamada whose eyes starting to accumulate tears. “Maybe you should call him and talk things through.”
“He did not pick up,” Yamada finally informs. “I texted him, but he never reply. He turns off his GPS too…”
“Usou…” Yabu is in disbelieve. He finds it weird that Keito will do such thing to Yamada, when the boy so frequently been in touch with Yuto and Hikaru.
What really happened between them?
Yabu put his hand on Yamada’s shoulder. “I am sure he is just busy with his studies. Don’t think too much about it.”
“I want to disappear…” Yamada mutters, giving shock to the elder boy.
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t know… I just want to be invisible for a moment. So that people will not hate me.”
“Nobody hates you! You are JUMP’s ace! Come on Ryosuke, don’t be so down. Genki genki!”
“I don’t want to be the ‘ace’ anymore, Yabu-chan… I am tired…”
“Ryosuke…” Yabu is at lost for words when he sees tears flowing down Yamada’s cheeks. It is very rare for Yamada to lose his cool and weep like this in front of the members. Clearly, he is in deep stress.
Yabu pulls Yamada closer, allowing the boy to continue crying in his brotherly hug. Indeed, the past few months has been quite a torture for Yamada. The hectic concert schedule, the scandal and of course the absence of his boyfriend. Yamada has turned down a lot of major drama role since Keito left.
Yamada is struggling internally- it is too obvious despite the boy tried to mask his feelings. Yuto was the one to notice it first, and he consulted BEST about it. Knowing Yamada’s personality, they tried to help in the most subliminal way possible. Yuto, Daiki and Chinen spent more time at Yamada’s apartment, engrossing him with video games. But JUMP knows the boy was only faking his smiles.
Only Keito can heal the pain in Yamada’s heart.
Yuto has been eavesdropping the whole conversation since the past few minutes. Unknowingly his heart breaks seeing Yamada being in this deep pit. If truth to be told, Keito’s action of ignoring Yamada is justified. Yuto won’t blame Keito either.
Anyone will react the same way if they are in Keito’s shoes.

“Why now? After 11 years?? Why do you have to leave now?”
“Because it is the time, Yama-chan. I can’t hide behind your shadows anymore.”
“I gave you all the opportunities! You should be grateful! And now you want to leave me??”
“That’s what I am talking about. I don’t want to be called ‘Yamada Ryosuke’s best friend’ anymore.”
“Excuse me??”
“I want to be known by my talent, not just simply-”
“You are already known as your father’s son! What is the difference with what we have now?”

Yamada is shocked hearing Keito yelling at him. Keito has always been soft spoken, and mostly keeping in silence when he is angry. Thus, Keito raising his voice surprised Yamada like no other.
Keito grabs Yamada’s left hand and pull the boy into his arms, hugging him tight.
“I want to be your equal, so that you can proudly declare our relationship to others,” Keito gently strokes Yamada’s hair.
Yamada hugs the taller boy tighter. “I am always proud of you, Keito.”
Keito sighs. No matter how much he tries to concentrate on the books in front of him, he fails. He can’t put his mind at peace. The news about Yamada’s scandal keeps lingering in his mind.
Is he all right? How is he taking the backlash from his fans?
He first saw the news on social media, that Yamada is dating a model- and that they frequently visited each other’s place. He didn’t really pay attention to it at first. It is just another scandal by some jerks- that’s what he thought.
But the comments on social media made Keito concern on the boy’s well-being. The word ‘betrayed’ and ‘traitor’ are used- by the same fans who said they will support any of the member’s decision. Not to mention how they rudely compare Yamada’s height to the said girlfriend- calling him short and dwarf.
Just reading the content gets Keito’s blood boiling. He can’t imagine how much damage would it cause to the boy.
That is exactly why Keito decided to further his knowledge about acting and composing. He wants their fans to acknowledge him as a true performer, not just ‘the JUMP member’ or “Okamoto Kenichi’s son’. It is his dream to be in a movie with Yamada and the rest of JUMP.
He wants to get the chance of being in the centre- just like other members when they get a theme song for their drama sang by the group. At least for once in his life he wants to sing as Yamada’s counterpart- not just another back up singer.
But Yamada did not understand this. The last night before Keito’s departure was supposed to be romantic and memorable. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst day of their lives- at least for Keito.
Keito’s cell phone rings. It is a call from Yuto- a video call that is. It is very strange for the boy to call at this hour, as it should be around midnight in Japan by now.
Keito presses the green button to answer the call. “Hi Yuto!”
“Keito!!! Have anyone told you?” Yuto suddenly shouts from the other side. The tall boy appears very agitated and rather anxious. “You must come back now. There’s no time!”
“Wowowowo… slow down Yuto,” Keito fixs his position. “You are talking too fast. And stop pacing like that! It makes me dizzy!”
Yuto stops for a while and takes deep breath. “Gomen…. but this is important. You must return to Tokyo NOW or you will regret it.”
“What is it? You know I can’t just teleport myself to Tokyo. It’s a damn 13 hours flight!”
“Ryosuke- Ryosuke is in the hospital!”
“WHAT?!?!” Keito stands up. He can feel the palpitation of his heart. “What happened? Is he all right?”
“Will he be in the hospital if he’s okay?! What kind of question is that?!”
“What I meant was, how serious is the injury?”
“Ryosuke got involved in car accident. He needs surgery.”
Keito could feel his pupil dilated. His heart is beating faster than before. He is at lost for words.
“Keito, Keito! Are you still there?”
“Ye- yes,” Keito stutters, as he corrects the angle of his cell phone so that Yuto can he his face again.
“Keito, listen,” Yuto changes the tone of his voice. “You and Ryosuke are my best friends. I know, Ryosuke was being a jerk. He shouldn’t have- well, it doesn’t matter anymore. You guys are the cutest couple. You guys love each other so much. Don’t let this one dispute make you forget all the beautiful memories you had with him.”
“You don’t want to regret this Keito.”

Yamada hugs his boyfriend tight. In less than 24hours, he will not see the boy anymore. He wishes for the time to stop. He doesn’t want to go through this separation.
“Yama-chan, doushtanou?” Keito wakes up at the sound of Yamada’s sobs. “Are you in pain?” Keito sits on the bed and turn on his side lamp.
Yamada shook his head. He continues to wrap his hands around Keito’s naked body. He wants to feel this warmth that his boyfriend is giving him for the last time.
“Don’t leave Keito,” Yamada cries louder. “I don’t want you to leave.”
“Yama-chan… we have talked about this…”
“I know. I thought I am prepared, but I’m not. I don’t want to wake up the next day not seeing your face. We’ve been together for so long… I can’t sleep without you. No- I can’t live without you.”
“You are JUMP’s ace. I know you will pull through.”
Yamada pushes Keito’s body. “What does being the ‘ace’ has anything to do with current situation?!” he raises his voice. “Is that how you see me all this while? Only as the ‘ACE’?”
“Yama-chan… I didn’t mean it in a bad way.”
“Do you know how much burden it is being in the centre? Do you know how hard I trained just to get the president’s attention? Do you really think I love being the ‘face’ of the group?”
“Yama-chan, I’m sorry if I hurt you. You are right, I don’t know-”
“You don’t! You get in the easy way!! Because your father is there!! You get the VIP treat from the president! But me?? I worked my ass off to be noticed, to debut!”
“You need to calm down dear. You are talking nonsense. Come here,” Keito grabs Yamada’s hand, attempted to bring the boy back into his arms.
Yamada roughly shoves Keito’s gestures. “Nonsense huh? I thought you are on my side Keito. I was wrong. You too, just simply see me as the ‘ace’.”
“You know that is not true.”
“You too, want to compete to be the centre.”
“Stop Yama-chan. You are crossing the line. I don’t want to argue with you.”
“So it’s true then, you are only using me.”
“I said stop!” Keito yells. “You are being paranoid and irrational!”
“I won’t stop!!” Yamada retorts. “You are no more than Okamoto Kenichi’s son. You have no talent. You shouldn’t have debuted in the first place.”
“No matter how hard you try Keito, you will never be the ‘ace’!”

Keito opens his eyes. He unintentionally dozed off during the long car ride from the airport. After the video call session the other day, Keito immediately booked his flight ticket to Tokyo. The 13 hours flight was torture for the boy. He can’t stop thinking about Yamada. Keito flips through all their pictures together since the day they officially become a couple 2 years ago. He misses Yamada so much, that his tears can’t stop falling. His only wish is for Yamada to be safe.
Yuto and Chinen fetched Keito at the airport and drove him to the hospital. There wasn’t much talk during the journey, as they were anxiously thinking and praying for Yamada.
“Why are we in the back door?” Keito asks.
“Because the lobby is full with reporters and I don’t think having them seeing you is a good idea,” Yuto replies.
Keito just silently nods. He has been in New York for almost six months, away from the paparazzi’s lenses- that he forgot how it was being an idol in Japan.
“I’m going to park the car. Chii will take you to Ryosuke’s room.”
“Let’s go Keito,” Chinen grabs Keito’s hand and leads him to the back entrance. They are running- to avoid being captured by the reporters and also, to reach to Yamada’s room sooner. They enter the elevator and Chinen presses the 3rd floor.
“Ne Chii… what if Yama-chan didn’t wake up?
Chinen looks at the English boy. “Let’s not think of the worst okay? Ryosuke is a strong boy. He will recover. He has to.”
The elevator arrives at its destination. The boys step out and head to Yamada’s room. Keito immediately opens the door and walks in.
To his surprise, he is in an empty room covered with white sheets.
No furniture, no wall decorations.

Keito is confused. He turns around to look at Chinen, but the door is closed.
A few seconds later, the door on the other side of the room opens.
“Keito….”
Keito gulps. His body freezes seeing the man in front of him.
“Yama-chan…”
Yamada, still panting from the sprint he made earlier, begins to become tearful. He runs towards Keito and hug his boyfriend like there’s no tomorrow.
“Yokatta… You are all right.. really… I’m glad…” Keito can feel Yamada’s tears wetting his shirt.
“What’s going on here?” the confuse Keito frowns. “Why are you walking? Shouldn’t you be in ICU? You just had head surgery!”
Yamada releases his hug. “What are you talking about? You are the one who is sick! Why didn’t you tell me about your disease?”
“What disease??”
“Hikaru-kun said you had cancer. You actually went to New York for chemo. But wait- you still have your hair!”
“I don’t have cancer, and I definitely didn’t get chemo.”
Yamada’s eyes widen. “Then why are you here in Tokyo?”
“They told me you had car accident and you had brain surgery! Yuto said you may die!”
“Technically my car skidded- so yeah, you can count that as accident. But no- no brain damage or anything. I’m okay!”
Yamada and Keito look at each other. Confused- yes, but at the same time relieved. That the person they love is fine and is here standing in front of them.
“I think we got pranked,” Yamada let go of Keito’s hand.
Keito nods. “It’s a shame that we need ‘death’ to let go of our ego.”
There is a moment of silence. Yamada’s face has turned red due to embarrassment.
“Are you… still angry at me?”
Keito pulls Yamada towards him and embraces the boy lovingly. “I am never angry,” he said, as he rubs his head against Yamada’s. “I was just sad. Sad that you doubt my feelings for you.”
“I’am sorry Keito… I was frustrated,” Yamada speaks. “I was sad that you want to leave me. I didn’t mean to say all the degrading remarks about you. I am sorry…”
“I told you Yama-chan. I want to be your equal. I want to be able to support you in our career. I don’t want to be the ‘centre’, I just want to be by your side.”
Yamada nods. “I know… please forgive me… do not ignore me like you did. The past 6 months I was in agony. I lost the person I loved. I can’t live without you,” he cries again.
Keito cups Yamada’s face and bring the boy’s lips towards him. He kisses the shorter boy on his lips- the kiss he has been missing for so long. Yamada returns the kiss passionately as he wraps his hands around Keito’s neck, tip toeing a bit to ease the taller boy.
“SURPRISE!!!!!!!!”
The door on both sides opens at the same time, revealing all JUMPS members standing next to each other. Hikaru, Yabu, and Chinen on one side, while Yuto, Takaki, Inoo and Daiki on the other. Yuto is holding a big chocolate cake, and Yabu is carrying a strawberry cake. The other members are holding green and red helium-filled balloons, one in each hand.
“It’s 1st of April Keito!! Which means… it’s your birthday!!!” Inoo exclaims.
“And we know it’s the anniversary for you two as a couple too!” Daiki continues. “Happy Birthday-versary!!!!”
“What’s that? Is that even a word?” Takaki questions the shorter boy.
“Who cares as long it sounds good,” Hikaru and the members get closer to the two boys. “Welcome home Keito!!” he snatches Keito from Yamada and hug the boy. “I miss you Gorilla!”
“Stop calling me Gorilla!!”
The room is filled with laughter. This is it, the sincere smile that everyone is missing. The smile and laugh that can only happen when the 9 of them are together.
“Time to blow the candle!!” Yuto and Yabu put the cakes on the portable tray. “Make a wish you two!”
Keito and Yamada stand in the middle, surrounded by the other JUMP members. The lovers look at each other dearly.
“I wish that one day I will be worthy to be in JUMP. And that one day I can make all of you proud. I wish that Yamada and I will be together forever,” Keito bend and kisses Yamada on his forehead.
Yamada smiles. “I wish that all Keito’s wish to be true.”
“Let’s blow the candle together. Ready? 1, 2, 3!”
The nine boys blow at the same time, followed by cheers and claps. Keito grabs Yamada’s waist, bring the boy close to him again and kisses the fair boy lips.
“You are the best thing that happened in my life. I love you Yama-chan.”
“I will help and support you from now on Keito. Just promise that you will call me everyday.”
“I promise. I will return to you, to JUMP, stronger and wiser. Wait for me.”
The door opens again. A very familiar person walks in and approaches the boys.
"KeKeKe?" Keito begins to feel uneasy.
KeKeKe raises his eyebrowns and smirks. "So, which slide are we going to test today?”

Keito opens his eyes. He unintentionally dozed off during the long car ride from the airport. After the video call session the other day, Keito immediately booked his flight ticket to Tokyo. The 13 hours flight was torture for the boy. He can’t stop thinking about Yamada. Keito flips through all their pictures together since the day they officially become a couple 2 years ago. He misses Yamada so much, that his tears can’t stop falling. His only wish is for Yamada to be safe.
Yuto and Chinen fetched Keito at the airport and drove him to the hospital. There wasn’t much talk during the journey, as they were anxiously thinking and praying for Yamada.
“Why are we in the back door?” Keito asks.
“Because the lobby is full with reporters and I don’t think having them seeing you is a good idea,” Yuto replies.
Keito just silently nods. He has been in New York for almost six months, away from the paparazzi’s lenses- that he forgot how it was being an idol in Japan.
“I’m going to park the car. Chii will take you to Ryosuke’s room.”
“Let’s go Keito,” Chinen grabs Keito’s hand and leads him to the back entrance. They are running- to avoid being captured by the reporters and also, to reach to Yamada’s room sooner. They enter the elevator and Chinen presses the 3rd floor.
“Ne Chii… what if Yama-chan didn’t wake up?
Chinen looks at the English boy. “Let’s not think of the worst okay? Ryosuke is a strong boy. He will recover. He has to.”
The elevator arrives at its destination. The boys step out and head to Yamada’s room. Keito immediately opens the door and walks in.
To his surprise, he is in an empty room covered with white sheets.
No furniture, no wall decorations.
It is an empty white room.
Keito is confused. He turns around to look at Chinen, but the door is closed.
A few seconds later, the door on the other side of the room opens.
“Keito….”
Keito gulps. His body freezes seeing the man in front of him.
“Yama-chan…”
Yamada, still panting from the sprint he made earlier, begins to become tearful. He runs towards Keito and hug his boyfriend like there’s no tomorrow.
“Yokatta… You are all right.. really… I’m glad…” Keito can feel Yamada’s tears wetting his shirt.
“What’s going on here?” the confuse Keito frowns. “Why are you walking? Shouldn’t you be in ICU? You just had head surgery!”
Yamada releases his hug. “What are you talking about? You are the one who is sick! Why didn’t you tell me about your disease?”
“What disease??”
“Hikaru-kun said you had cancer. You actually went to New York for chemo. But wait- you still have your hair!”
“I don’t have cancer, and I definitely didn’t get chemo.”
Yamada’s eyes widen. “Then why are you here in Tokyo?”
“They told me you had car accident and you had brain surgery! Yuto said you may die!”
“Technically my car skidded- so yeah, you can count that as accident. But no- no brain damage or anything. I’m okay!”
Yamada and Keito look at each other. Confused- yes, but at the same time relieved. That the person they love is fine and is here standing in front of them.
“I think we got pranked,” Yamada let go of Keito’s hand.
Keito nods. “It’s a shame that we need ‘death’ to let go of our ego.”
There is a moment of silence. Yamada’s face has turned red due to embarrassment.
“Are you… still angry at me?”
Keito pulls Yamada towards him and embraces the boy lovingly. “I am never angry,” he said, as he rubs his head against Yamada’s. “I was just sad. Sad that you doubt my feelings for you.”
“I’am sorry Keito… I was frustrated,” Yamada speaks. “I was sad that you want to leave me. I didn’t mean to say all the degrading remarks about you. I am sorry…”
“I told you Yama-chan. I want to be your equal. I want to be able to support you in our career. I don’t want to be the ‘centre’, I just want to be by your side.”
Yamada nods. “I know… please forgive me… do not ignore me like you did. The past 6 months I was in agony. I lost the person I loved. I can’t live without you,” he cries again.
Keito cups Yamada’s face and bring the boy’s lips towards him. He kisses the shorter boy on his lips- the kiss he has been missing for so long. Yamada returns the kiss passionately as he wraps his hands around Keito’s neck, tip toeing a bit to ease the taller boy.
“SURPRISE!!!!!!!!”
The door on both sides opens at the same time, revealing all JUMPS members standing next to each other. Hikaru, Yabu, and Chinen on one side, while Yuto, Takaki, Inoo and Daiki on the other. Yuto is holding a big chocolate cake, and Yabu is carrying a strawberry cake. The other members are holding green and red helium-filled balloons, one in each hand.
“It’s 1st of April Keito!! Which means… it’s your birthday!!!” Inoo exclaims.
“And we know it’s the anniversary for you two as a couple too!” Daiki continues. “Happy Birthday-versary!!!!”
“What’s that? Is that even a word?” Takaki questions the shorter boy.
“Who cares as long it sounds good,” Hikaru and the members get closer to the two boys. “Welcome home Keito!!” he snatches Keito from Yamada and hug the boy. “I miss you Gorilla!”
“Stop calling me Gorilla!!”
The room is filled with laughter. This is it, the sincere smile that everyone is missing. The smile and laugh that can only happen when the 9 of them are together.
“Time to blow the candle!!” Yuto and Yabu put the cakes on the portable tray. “Make a wish you two!”
Keito and Yamada stand in the middle, surrounded by the other JUMP members. The lovers look at each other dearly.
“I wish that one day I will be worthy to be in JUMP. And that one day I can make all of you proud. I wish that Yamada and I will be together forever,” Keito bend and kisses Yamada on his forehead.
Yamada smiles. “I wish that all Keito’s wish to be true.”
“Let’s blow the candle together. Ready? 1, 2, 3!”
The nine boys blow at the same time, followed by cheers and claps. Keito grabs Yamada’s waist, bring the boy close to him again and kisses the fair boy lips.
“You are the best thing that happened in my life. I love you Yama-chan.”
“I will help and support you from now on Keito. Just promise that you will call me everyday.”
“I promise. I will return to you, to JUMP, stronger and wiser. Wait for me.”
The door opens again. A very familiar person walks in and approaches the boys.
"KeKeKe?" Keito begins to feel uneasy.
KeKeKe raises his eyebrowns and smirks. "So, which slide are we going to test today?”
