Transitions

I suppose I have been quite lax on actually posting significant information here, I will make amends now.

Sandra has gotten a job as a bank regulator with the FDIC. In Seattle. So we're moving to Seattle. She's currently in Washington DC for orientation and accounting training, back on the 19th. Then she's going to Dallass for another week of training. Then to Seattle. Hopefully, she'll find a place to live by July 1st, and I'll drive the animals up there sometime in July (or possibly August) and we'll get rolling. In Sept, she's back to Dallas for 3 months.

I'll be continuing to work for the same company, remotely. I'm quite looking forward to not commuting. Since I moved to 5 days a week, the commute has been very draining. I've had bad discipline about staying home, so I've been having lots of 4 day drives. This week would have been 5, but I pushed some stuff out for Friday. I may or may not come back down during Sandra's 3 months in Dallas. Mostly a question of how well the animals can be settled out during that time.

My brother Casey has his first baby (and my first niece*) due this Saturday, so there's lots of stuff going down.

All in all, I'm quite excited about the whole process. Except for moving away from all my friends and social groups. :( I'm not really looking forward to meeting a bunch of new people. But I am quite looking forward to having a real house. Seattle real estate doesn't seem to have cannibalized itself quite as much as the Bay, so most of the rentals we're looking at are full houses with two car garages and reasonable back yards for about what we're paying now. I really like the idea of having a little workshop and getting to do more hacker-ish/Make type stuff. As I mentioned, having my commute time back will be awesome as well. Assuming I settle in well to the weather in Seattle, we'll also probably be buying a house at some point. I've had a very strong nesting instinct for the last year or so. Mostly, I want to do home improvement type stuff that just doesn't make any sense unless you own your home. It doesn't help that I'm working for a home security/automation/energy management company, so there's lot of potential for cool trick with out software, or cool stuff I could hack at home and then turn into work projects.

It's really a significant transition. I feel like I'll officially be a grown up once we move, and kind of have to start acting like one. I'm hoping to start some new good habits once we move, too. Some of them I've started already in the last month or so (better eating, exercise, sleeping schedule) and hoping for more when we move.

So that's what's up.
