I'm in my cast now \8D/ It's all green and awesome!

Anyway, basically on monday night I slept an hour because I was extremely nervous, then got up at 6 and headed out to the hospital for 8. I ended up waiting for about 2 hours before getting into a room for my appointment. Then a resident came in and... I know it wasn't his fault because he's new and trying to find out the okay ways to act around patients, but he was just so serious business. He did ask me my favourite question of the day, though:

"So, can I... try to move the bone around and align it properly?"

I think he caught a glimpse of my face because he quickly added I could wait until they froze my hand.

I waited for another 30 minutes or so before the doctor came in. He was such an awesome doctor, one of the ones who likes to joke around and make you feel more relaxed. It's not everyones cup of tea, but I prefer to have someone talk to be about my health and be able to crack jokes. That's probably because when I get confronted with uncomfortable situations, I like to make jokes. Anyway, he told me I had two options: get pins in my hand or go under and get screws. He told me this couldn't be fixed by slapping a cast on because it was a diagonal break. As a side note, it was really gross taking the splint off and seeing the bone pushing against the skin and making my finger all wonky. I know there's worse breaks out there, I think I was grossed out because I was seeing the break on me and not someone else.

So I decided to go with the pins! Which is pretty much like wire they drill into you. Now I'm dead tired and starving, so I'm not really processing how this is all going to work. I ask if they put you asleep or something, and he tells me that they use the same kind of anesthetic they use at the dentists office. Oh, okay, that's awesome-- Hey, wait. So I'm going to be awake when they drill my hand?

But of course \8D/ ... *sob*

"Am I going to hear the drill? Is it noisy D:?"
"We'll bring in a radio and blast country music!"
*crying on the inside*
"I'll even sing to you."

And you know, there's that rational part inside you that goes "Well, it's only a medical drill. Can't be that bad!" but every other part of you assumes it's something akin to that which  the Canadian Tire family might try to sell to the hospital.

I ended up waiting about 3 or 4 hours before I got into the room for the surgery. The sit you in this chair that looks like a comfy barber shop chair and raise you up in the air. I was shaking pretty bad while they started getting the room ready, but it got worse when they brought in that damn radio. Then they got the needles ready and I became slightly relieved. I actually don't mind needles at all, especially when I know they're going to be preventing pain. In total, they gave me 7 needles in the hand before stretching my arm out on the table with the straps on it. The doctor grabbed my finger that had the break and yanked on it. I mean, the resident helped me stay back in the chair and the doctor planted his feet on the ground and pulled with all of his might. It felt like they were going to rip my finger off only I couldn't feel anything thanks to all of the needles. Then they took a couple of looks at it in the x-ray machine and were about to get the drill when--

"Maybe we don't need these pins :|a"

Apparently the force that the doctor pulled out my finger helped align the bone better. He said it wouldn't have gotten any better with pins, so they put me right in a cast! Even though the doctor kept asking if he could use the drill because it was a brand new one 8'( He was funny, though I'm glad I didn't need that done XD I didn't regain feeling in my hand until later in the evening. It feels really uncomfortable not having feeling in your hand while in a cast.

I go back next friday to get this cast off. That's so they can check to see that I don't really need the pins. I hope I don't. It's been very odd having to do everything with my left hand. And being on tylenol every few hours leaves me so drained.

I should really sleep now since I need to get up early >:
