May 7th: Rucka - A Gentleman's Game: A Queen & Country novel. Set in between Operation: Saddlebags and Operation: Red Panda. Or what happened to Tom and Tara. Man, was I angry at Tara's bosses in this one. Loyalty is a two way road and all that...

May 10th: C.E. Murphy - Heart of Stone: How to describe this. Its like Disney's Gargoyles mashed up with the Beauty & the Beast tv show, set in some small press companies off-market version of the World of Darkness. Also I read this right around the time the NYPD was getting off for gunning down unarmed minority civilians. Again. So the lead's on again, off again cop boyfriend and his arrogance really annoyed the fuck out of me...

May 11th: Steven Gould - Jumper: All I can see after rereading this again is how glad I am that I avoided the movie version...

May 13th: Rucka - Shooting At Midnight: 4th Atticus Kodiak book. Though this one concentrates on his sometime girlfriend, PI Bridget Logan. Who revisits her teen-age junkie culture trying to clear a friend of murder charges...

May 14th: Richard K. Morgan - Altered Carbon: First of Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs books. A combination of noir and far future mil-spec scifi. In the futuristic setting FTL travel is impossible. And prisoners have their minds uploaded into virtual storage. Which means when you need an ex-military operative to prove you didn't commit suicide, you have his consciousness beamed to you from hundreds of light years away and uploaded into the empty shell of a prisoner to conduct the investigation...

May 16th: Stephen King - Everything's Eventual: Most recent anthology of King's short stories...

Of course between the revolutionaries, his former mercenary allies and his current corporate allies nothing is as simple as it seems...

May 30th: Spider Robinson - The Callahan Touch: Maybe I'm just more cynical now. But Robinson's idealized Bar Commune doesn't appeal to me anymore. Maybe its just how much I hate drunks now, that makes me scoff at his Group Telepathy Through Friendly Boozing. Of course Solace the Whiny A.I. didn't help. I'm sorry, but you're hurt that the group of people you've been LYING to about your nature are initially afraid of you? To fucking bad. You want total acceptance try not pretending to be people's dead friends...

May 31st: A. Lee Martinez - In the Company of Ogres: The tale of Never Dead Ned, incompetent soldier who can't stay dead. Making him, in the eyes of the Dread Legion's leaders, the perfect person to take over as CO for Ogre Company. A unit whose previous commanders all died under "mysterious" circumstances...
