Making it good: BMB's The Hood

Jan 27, 2008 17:56

A preemptive Making it Good on the annoying and more than a little misogynistic Hood: Kingpin of Super-Villains story arc over in the Avengers titles right now. This one for Cheryl Lynn, though I forget to add in Misty and Colleen...

Beware, crappy stick figure art! )

making it good, comics, tigra, avengers, things that are not right

In re: #2. I actually double checked with Wikipedia when doing this to see WHO was listed as part of his gang. It shows that he sent WIZARD as one of his thugs to muscle the Owl. His gang is FULL of guys who have been legitimate players and with NO BUILD-UP they fold into his gang...

The Mr. Fear arc from Daredevil? He joins the Hood. That had to make the writer on it (Brubaker?) happy. He spends most of his time MOVING AWAY from where Bendis left Daredevil and then he's forced to fall in line behind the guy again because he's found a new pet character...

Hell, BMB has FOOLKILLER in this group. A killer vigilante. WORKING WITH A GANG OF SUPER-CRIMINALS. How does that make any sense?

I shouldn't get this annoyed with a book I don't buy. But shit like this, where they mangle the existing characterization and concepts to fit their "grand story" from the DC and Marvel guys ticks me off. What if and Elseworlds AND all the other alternate universe stories exist for a reason...

HELL. This story arc would have fit PERFECTLY in Ult. Spider-Man. Ultimate The Hood begins gathering up all the super-criminals. They don't have the SHRA thing to McGuffin the explanation, but Fury's incompetent in that universe so they don't need it...

Ok, ok. Time to back under the Apathy Blanket. Don't care. Doesn't matter. Om om om...
